Open invite to flame sir noob-a-lot

Post number 2 - and a request already. I have a trusty Giant OCR road bike which is Alu with carbon front fork. From extensive searching of the forum I get the impression that this frame layout is not conducive to conversion to fixed, related to the vertical drop-outs.
Feel free to commence the lynching..... but could I also get some input about the cost (specificallY) of doing the conversion properly and whether to do it or not.
If it is going to end up with a sh1t fixed gear I would also like to know.

Anyway, round up the posse - and thanks for all help in advance.

For fixed wheel you will either need a white industries ENO hub, which are quite pricey, or an eccentric bottom bracket, which I know nothing about although I believe VB was looking into them, and MrSmith has used them. Do not use a chain tensioner with fixed, it will not work.

You could get lucky and use a 'magic gear'. Check out Sheldon Brown's web site.

Track ends make it much, much easier to sort out. Semi-horizontal works, vertical is quite expensive in comparison.

ebb's need a bigger shell so not viable if your frame is aluminium. i would go for the white industries hub getting track ends welded in is going to be difficult as you need to heat treat the frame afterwards to retrain strength (welding steel is cheaper/easier and more readily available).
one thing to watch is bb height and crank length. low bb and long cranks means possibility of pedal strikes

i don't think the frame is suitable.

i'd look for something cheap, with horizontal dropouts. there is enough out there.

why not sell the giant and get a used off the peg for cheap cheap?

I'm with hamster, drop out replecement while not too costly may not be the best option, an OTP track bike will have a higher bb which is nice for fixed.

ok make it a bit more for the extra work...

sell the OCR and either buy a frame and slowly buy stuff off here and ebay or buy a Fuji Track if you're itching to get out on fixed straight away.

or keep the OCR and get another bike for fixed. road bikes are good and shouldn't be discarded on a whim.

can certainly do the above. no i dont work in imperial (based in oxford). as based in oxford prob available on an intermittent basis physically, but can certainly opine on request.

the white industry ENO hubs are so fucking expensive you may as well not bother with them unless your building a solid gold bike with diamond pedals that can give you head and cook for you all at the same time.
