Nitto Risers- stem compatibility...

Posted on
  • ...just bought some of these, and I assumed they would fit my Thomson Elite stem (both are 25.4), but it the clamping area of the bar seems quite narrow.

Am I restricted to a quill/road type stem with these bars?

    Thanks in advance...

  • the clamp is too narrow for your tompson? what about shims?

  • ...sorry, should have perhaps made myself a bit clearer

Not really a shim issue I don't think...pics may illustrate this better:

...both are 25.4 and the stem grips the bar fine (not fully tightened in the pic btw), but as you can see the stem clamp overhangs the bar clamp area a bit.

    Safe to ride?

  • is that a threadless stem. where did you get that? what mm extension is that?

  • I am looking for a real nice threadless silver/chrome finish stem. checked the new nitto one(with a twist) on hubjub, but it is only 100mm min. I hate text on stems though, can you get text polished off stems.

  • It's fine. It is still clamping bulge. The overhang is not in contact with the bar so it does no matter.

  • get mtb bars designed for wider clamp!

If the letters are not etched, the answer is yes. The old KORE silver road A-head stems (plenty of them on ebay) can have the letters removed as its just a decal: although the weldings are not pretty, it is just an inexpensive, decent, shinny, and text-free stem for your bike.
