There are a few climbs on the way ( enough for david millar to win the king of the mountains jersey) but i think its mostly flat.
Amazing how many people think that Kent is flat!
Here's a link to the route that the British Cyclosportive took.

I'm not sure how you can turn 120 miles into 60, but you could maybe catch a train to Tonbridge and start from there (the route goes right past), that would make it 67 miles. Not a nice start though, you'd be climbing from the word go for 2 miles. You could maybe catch one to Paddock Wood, you'd only be a couple of miles off route from there. It would also leave out the crappy busy section of the A26 between Tonbridge and Tunbridge Wells.
I would love to join you, but I'm playing in my Sunday league football final!

haha yeah, as i said fairly spur of the moment, having done a bt more research decided the tdf route is a bit far for an easy-ish sunday ride so going to follow this route...roughly

You need to click the little "Link to this Page" bit at the top right of the map after you've got it showing what you want.
I think this is what you wanted to show: http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=d&hl=en&geocode=&saddr=london&daddr=Canterbury,+Kent,+United+Kingdom&mra=cc&dirflg=h&sll=51.387209,0.477905&sspn=0.844998,2.090149&ie=UTF8&t=h&z=9

This is the route it gave me
They seem to be about the same distance, I guess it depends which has less traffic

Not bad, this would be better.
Bit shitty til Swanley though.

This would be my route ( avoids big A roads):
http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=1822321Also and most importantly it is the closest to the TDF route:

avoiding big dual carriageways is always a bonus. I fucking hate having cars come past my shoudler at 70mph. Freaks the fuck out of me. Do it if you want, but you won't enjoy it.

I used to ride to Hawkhurst at weekends. There's a nasty bit where the A20 joins the M20 somewhere near Swanley, I remember. It's badly signposted and you have to be careful not to end up on the M20. BTW I saw the TdF at Sissinghurst.

I don't remember any hills of note. I might join you (geared) if the weather's sweet.

There's a good bike shop in Canterbury : http://www.downlandcycles.co.uk/racingTeam.htm
They sell Orbeas and Isaacs, and Felt. I got a good offer on Corimas for £800. Bargain. -

And the cycle Lane, if it exists, is all stones and broken lorry bits . . . I know!

I would have joined you if I had a bit more notice.
Not bad, this would be better.
Bit shitty until Swanley though.
Yep much nicer route. If you keep right by the river you are in a built up area until you get the other side of Rochester oon some nasty busy roads.
Bit of a spur of the moment thing but a friend and i are plannng to ride from greenwich to canterbury this sunday busy planning the route at the moment but its looking at between 60 and 65 miles, plus i hear there are several nice sainsbury's in the cantebury, and there are apparently some good ice cream shops for motivation once we are there!
There are a few climbs on the way ( enough for david millar to win the king of the mountains jersey) but i think its mostly flat.
So basically loking for any advice from anyone who has done a similar route, and to invite anyone who is up for it, planning on setting off at about 10, i'll be riding fixed, friend will be doing with a few gears.
