  • From hackney lcc:

"On Monday 21st April 2008 in the morning, Queensbridge and De Beauvoir
Safer Neighbourhood Teams will be carrying out enforcement action on
Kingsland Road (the A10), for any traffic offences. This will include
any cyclist who jumps red lights, or cycles on the footway, or any other cycle-related offence."

Fixed penalty notices will be issued to offenders, resulting in a £45
fine (£30 if paid within 28 days) and the possibility of arrest and an
    appearance in court.

  • Anyone fancy a mass RLJ?

  • haha that'd be a pisser!

  • i can imagine the po-po in their full uniform and sh*tty mountain bikes umming and erring about who to follow...

but isn't there an elite squad of biking po-po in lycra?

  • why don't they prevent REAL crimes.

  • creating the illusion of omnipotence dissuades the sly. basically.

pretty machiavellian, with all the flaws that go with the italian's logic.

  • This is how the cops do their thing now. They give up on serious criminals and occasionally NAIL a certain area, and anyone with their shoe-laces undone within it.

It's about PR and headlines, and it's bollocks.

Maybe on unmarked carbon track bikes with a Cateye on the back that says 'Pull Over'?

  • i'd be up for this, meet at my yard (stoke newington high st) and bomb it down kingsland rd, who's with me?

    I want in !

  • woop woop!

  • That's the sound of . . .

Loving the new cycling philosophy angle ! :)

  • so who's serious about doing this, 8am? on the way to work...

  • I'm thinking about going down there and shooting some photos of the rozzers in action - with special attention to other vehicular law infringements and asking why they're doing nothing about them

When the AA first started, their patrolmen had to salute AA members who went past (the could tell who was a member by the big badges they used to issue). If a patrolman failed to salute, you were supposed to stop and ask why - they'd then warn you about a police speed trap up ahead... Who wants to do a good samaritan thing? Stand 200m further down the road warning people on bikes? No saluting, though. :p

There is something in the air.

  • I saw them this morning. I think they were digging my new shiny Nobrake. Didn't hang around to find out though.

Pretty hard to miss them from 200m. There were about 35-40, all in hi-vis jackets.
You'd have to be blind to have been caught by them.

To be fair, they did shout "morning gents" as I rode past. Shame they didn't nick the guy in the red beemer who was trying his hardest to beat the bikes away from the lights and almost took a couple out. What a twat.

  • Gone by 12:30. There was a shooting or something at junc of middleton road, loads of K road was closed. great cycling!

Jeez, saw the fuzz on bikes there this morn, all in a huddle getting psyched/in the zone etc before riding up the road. ha! guess it didn't last long. will they be back at rush hour later?

  • did anyone see the accident on kingsland road this morning? at the end of middleton road think a cyclist was involved, road closed, everything diverted, about 9.30am, didn't look good... :(

  • sad news, i always thought that road to be relatively light, sad news indeed.

  • It seems especially sad that this occurred within half a mile of a load of police sitting around waiting for people to jump red lights.
