• I'm planning on getting a Fuji Track, so will need to buy a front brake as they don't come with brakes. To carry the bike into my flat it makes life so much easier to whip the front wheel out so intend to make that quick-release. Most front brakes I've seen have the cable end bolted tight in, no good for quick-release, which brakes don't? Thanks.

  • shrimano have a quick release on most (all?) of there new stuff, its a switch

  • you shouldn't have to loosen the brake with 25c and under tyres..

I've not had to anyway, and I guess it depends on how close you like your pads..

also making the fuji's front hub into QR might involve some wrangling

  • yeh, most shimano and tektro calipers have a lever on it that you can turn so that it opens up for wheel removal

  • Most dual pivit brakes have quick release. I THINK cmapag tend to have the q/r on the lever rather than the caliper. So most dual pivot should be fine.

    oops too late.

Aaah, true. Hadn't thought of that. Trying to get a QR axle into the Fuji hub may not work. Hmmm, bugger.

Maybe I just have to find new contorted positions to negotiate the stairs into my flat with...

  • it's easy to get shimano axles that take QR...

but shimano axles are cup n' cone, I expect the fuji uses a cheap hub with cartrdge bearings? if not then a shimano axle may well fit.

  • decthlon do really cheap 700 cc front wheels. They will not be anything special but no worse than the stock wheel I am sure.

  • I'll go investimigate, back in a jiffy...

  • So say Biddle Bikes:

Fuji Alloy Track, 32H, Semi sealed bearing hub with cone and bearings (not sealed bearings as indicated on the Fuji website.), dual threaded rear

So, if they're cone and bearings semi-sealed they should be cool for a QR axle. Non?
