  • i want to paint my bike matt black, but the only thing i can think of using is black undercoat.

can anyone tell me of a good matt black paint to use that wont chip and that i can brush on so i can get a thicker coat.

    thanks

  • Why not paint it with blackboad paint? You can add 'One Less Car' logos etc.at will.
Can buy it in lots of DIY places and also here.
EDIT - Googled a bit and found that screwfix is cheaper.. use the leftover on your walls. :)

  • Talk to Andy at fixedgearlondon. He had my DMR powdercoated Matt Black - It looks awesome.

  • cheers, i will

  • Blackboard Arrospok FTW!

  • Was that your matt black frame Em? Looks niiice... you going for a completely black stealth number?

    Brush !!!! No ! No ! Nooooo !!!!!

    It will look terrible !!

Spray paint - from halfords - clicky click

  • its all about the matt black rattle

  • ok, i dont have anywhere i can rattle can my bike and secondly im looking for the stealth number yes. The stealth look is EXACTLY what im looking for. like i said, i want paint that wont chip, cos its annoying pain in the ass. where can i buy stealth paint :D ??

  • only joking guys, the halfords spray seems spot on. i shall buy me thinks and rattle can my old beasty. Does anyone here have anything against Dawes Super Galaxy, coz that what i got ??

  • Ben I thought you'd seen my fixed offroader?
    It's pretty stealthy in a tank-I-ride-over-everything like way ;]

  • how about one of these

A: do it right powder coat

    OR

    B: dont do it.

  • how much does it cost to powder coat? and a silly question.. do i need to wire brush or sand down an old frame before powder coating?

  • No when you get it done, they sand blast or similar all the paint off - just take the frame. Costs aprox £40-60.

    Do they do matt though?

  • Yeah, powder coat is usually measured in percentage gloss, so 'black 0%
gloss' is matt, 40%ish is a satin and 100% is proper shiny, you then get 120% which is almost mirror like black.

personally I'd go satin as matt black can look rough once it starts to get knocked about and dirty.

  • ok, im in london so any you chapps know a good powder coating firm, coz £40 seems like a bargain to be honest. if that includes the sand blasting all in.

    cheers

  • If you want a really flat and very tough finish, you could use exhaust paint. Very, very matt and super hard wearing

  • in my experience exhaust paint isnt heard wearing .. it kinda powdery since its primarily designed for extreme heat changes rather than being durable....

anyway ive sent an e mail to the eyebrows recommendation. see what happens

Armourtex are doing my frame and forks (Langster 06), stem, and cranks matt black next week whilst i am in france - will be able to post pic when back.

Charging 80 quid for the lot, but that is because Alu fram harder to prep - if it was steel the would have charged for 60 quid for the lot, or 45 for frame and forks only.

  • Was in armourtex this morning and a matt black frame was on the shelf, hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, slick!

  • awesome guys ! remember about those pics. yea, i only want the fork and frame powder coated. nothing else. so £45..... hmmmm. At the moment i cant since i really need my bike for work.... but in the summer i will do it, after June.

  • powder coat turnaround should be one day.

  • I thought that Armourtex charged a flat rate for a number of parts?
