I was pointed to this forum direction by a workmate. I am currently working in Sweden. I bought a classic '80s Crescent racing bike to commute to work, which I used most of last year. I have recently had problems with the wheels, and constantly getting punctures on the old tyres (only small veriaty available for my wheel size). The gears and crank are all showing signs of their age now, so I thought it would be a good time to update the major parts into a singlespeed. The model name is Crescent 92317-fashion line.
I have attched some pictures of it (needs a clean admittedly!). I measured the rear, and it seems to be about 125mm
So, I firstly want to find some new size wheels(700c I think?) which I can fit decent tyres to. The current sizing says: 32-630 27x1-1/4. Does anyone know what size wheels will fit? I would be looking for something like mavic open pro's (which I have on my bike at home). I guess you can get these wheels with the 'flip-flop' rear hubs in? Also i'd ideally like to keep the front brake, but not sure if it will fit over 700c wheels...
I would like to replace the Bottom bracket and crank too. Can anyone reccomend a decent, reliable combination? I am looking at a 44/16 ratio, which is about right for me. I have seen some Sugino cranks which look good. My main problem here is I havent a clue which Bottom bracket will fit this frame.
This bike will be my weekday bike which will have to be reliable. I want to buy decent parts, but at the same time they dont need to be top of the range stuff. I will want to take (post?!) the bike back to the uk when I finish here in July.
If anyone can reccomend parts, Good shops, and advice id greatly appriciate it!
