  • Preferably with some knowledge of cycling/sports related injuries?

I've been getting some discomfort in my knees for quite some time now. I read through some of the previous posts on here, all good advice but I've been off the bike for over three weeks now and the pain doesn't seem to want to shift. So I went to an osteopath near where I work in Old Street but she seemed really flaky and did a no show for my second appointment today so i won't be going back there again!

Any advice or recommendations would be appreciated.

  • there's a guy called adam beaumont who is very good - down on Northcote road in Battersea though.

  • The Osteopathy school in borough is meant to be good and cheap.

  • I had a knee problem a couple of years ago and used Physio SW19 in Wimbledon (it's right next to the station so easy to get to). James, the guy I saw is an ex-marathon runner who now rides due to a knee problem so understands the frustration! He put me right in no time at all.

  • Thanks for the tips guys, I live south of the river so any of those could be good.

Hopefully a couple of leg locks and a few pile drivers will sort me out and get me back on my bike ;-)

  • Hey motman, Chris Penter's really good too... He's in Clapham Common...

  • chris at bodylab http://www.bodylab.co.uk/ works from the business design centre in Angel. Used to be one of the head honcho's of london tri-club, but now has his own team. very clued up for cycling injuries.

or i've got another mate way out in whetstone, but haven't got his number to hand.

  • I went to British School of Oesteopathy at Borough with back and elbow problems. It's cheap but you get seen by students. I saw a different one every week (because they were ill or skiving) and spent half of each session repeating symptons etc. I'm sure that some people get great treatment there but I think you take your chances.

Was it me that recommended him to you? I have a vague memory of doing so in the dim and distant past. Seconded, he's a top bloke who knows a lot about sporting injuries.

That's right, forgot about that! Great to see you last night, we'll have to sort out some night rides down south v. soon! :D

It was that! Small world, very funny. When you tipped up I was standing there grinning thinking I wonder how long it takes him to notice!

    =D

see Simon. He's the man. not cheap and not without pain but he always sorts me out.

  • I never saw him, but when I worked their briefly I heard nothing but super-praise for Guy Gould at the Triyoga in Primrose Hill. Also, there's a craniosacralist there, called Steve Haines, who is also possibly one of the finest Chiropractors in the world. So good, unfortunately, that he's pretty much given it up in favour of the head/spine gentle manipulation stuff. Or, if it's really bad, get yourself a referral to the Royal National Orthopedic. Their physios are great. And free.

  • Sorry for a late reply, but I have been to the Central London Osteopathy clinic in Old Street many times and seen both an osteopath, physiotherapist and sports masseur.
They have all been top class and I even met one of my favorite premiership players in the waiting room, when I had seen the main osteopath, Torben.
All the masseurs are International - some even Olympic - athletes themselves.
It must be the best place for sports/cycling injuries.
    Check them out on www.london-osteopath.com

  • Apols for the LFGSS dumpster-diving... I've been attending the British School of Osteopathy for the last coupla months and just wanted to say how fantastic they are... I was practically crippled when I went in there and the treatment they've given me has been amazing, I feel great... It's very cheap at £20 per session (less if you're a key-worker/on benefits) and it really does work... The osteopaths are all in their final year of study and they're closely monitored by their tutors at all times so they can't do you any harm... I really can't praise these guys enough... Kate Rose was my osteopath, she qualifies in 6 weeks and I'm gonna put her name around on here to help her get started, she's practically saved my life... Er, that's it... Only wish I'd gone there sooner... :D

    I'd second this recommendation.
Used to work across the road from here in El Paso, did myself some damage lifting a big speaker and couldn't breathe properly.
Nipped over the road and Torben did some serious bone crunching on me and I was right as rain!

I can 100% back that up. I got hit by a car on my bike a few years back and ran a 3 month course with these guys.

Seeing as they were students they were just happy to have someone they can actually help fix, rather than 80 years oesteoperosis cases. Did lots of investigations and alternative treatments to sort out all of my pelvic twisting from tight hamstrings and a longer than average back. I had a car accident when I was a teenager, played front row in rugby and got some pretty heavy growth pains and back problems after all that.

I'm pretty ship shape after they fixed me up completely rather than just going for my initial problem.

    good shout Teenslain

I also used them and thought they were ace.

I now see one of the tutors from the school in his private clinic as it was a bum for me to get to. Obviously more money but I highly recommend him...

  • I went here with a bad neck:

    http://www.broadgatespine.co.uk/our-services/osteopathy/

Really good, AND they have an onsite GP - I left my first session loaded up like Heath Ledger.

  • In the past I have used the Crystal Palace Sports Injury Clinic- used to be reasonable in price and excellent treatment.

  • London School of Osteopathy are superb. I hurt my back on New Years eve and was in such pain that walking 100 metres could reduce me to tears. I genuinely feared I would ever walk properly again let alone ride. They fixed me pretty much completely in 8 sessions. I still need to go back to sort out a few risidual problems but am still amazed how quick they sorted it.

  • big second on the British School of Osteopathy.
been with two separate issues on a good number of times and both have been sorted.
i think there are a whole load of forum people who head there, always a fixed out the front.
i recommend this place to all i know.
