put it this way, the cost of the raw materials in a bike frame or other components is a mere fraction of the retail price. the majority of the cost is in manufacturing, shipping and a series of wholesale and retail mark-ups. the rising cost of fuel to ship the parts around the world will have a much bigger impact than fluctuations in steel prices.
also this does give us all an excuse to buy carbon frames and parts....
