he found out he was going to run once we made it to the pub in Southend...

  • who's the handsome fella on the right? are there any normal photo's of me??

  • vanity satisfied?

  • still getting your lefts and rights mixed up hey dogs ;)

just to say a really good ride there all.

big shouts to lebowski for mastering the route and then sniggering along with me when we thought we were lost most of the time...

big shout to all for keeping it going at a fair clip despite the numerous stops to check directions we made good time.

nice one to sainsburys ed. good on your sir.

    til next one.

hey lebowski, when you get a sec post up those stats from your computer.

and a big fucking thanks to southeastnetworktrainrail for there special offer. Eight slightly drunken fixed gear types for the price of four.

  • oh, and some great pics PJ - nice one.

and scarecrow, who could forget you.

  • Were you two staring at me cos I look like I'm curling one out in my chinos?

  • Oh yeah what happened to phil and Jamie (the guy who's only been riding for two weeks?) when we went to the station?

How'd you get on in the marathon phil?

  • Perfect day, great atmosphere, thank you guys! And big up for Sainsburys Ed for doing the ride!

Hope to see all you on the Dunwich Dynamo! Oh and another picture of the giant fish:

  • Roberto i really thought you were Vegan but not anymore!!!!

  • well done to sainsburys ed
now all we need is asda Jim

  • Hey, I'm doing this ride with my GF on holiday Monday and was looking for a route. A few were posted throughout the discussion, but it looks like this one (http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/BHF-London-to-Southend-2007-Home-to-Victoria-Park-Start-included

) ended up being the one taken, vrai (I didn't go through all of the cheat sheet, but it matched up to begin with, anyway)?

Anything particular about the route that would be helpful (if known) before we take off? Cheers.

  • lebowski aka Andy had a nicely printed set of directions you could try to get hold of them

that was all that was used for the route, and jonny got a nice map near the end from a garden centre

  • Yeah, he posted those directions here too. I guess we'll take those along and see how the days plays itself out! Thanks!

  • It's a really nice route, lots of quiet country roads The cheat sheet is fairly straightforward, the only thing i would add would be to go through the bikely route and add approximate distances to each leg. It saves you constantly looking for the next turning when in fact it's 6 miles down the road.

Oh and keep an eye out for the Tysea Hill turning. It's halfway down a steep hill, so very easy to miss it.

Otherwise enjoy, and have some Fish and Chips when you get there.

  • Hey, thanks Lebwoski. The idea of adding distances was a good one, so I went into Google Maps and used your directions to map out the route. It makes things a bit over complicated, but it is nice to see it in detail. Here it is for anyone that may care in the future. I also added the bit around the reservoir (not sure if you guys did it or not? It's on the BHF route anyway).

  • Resurrection Time!!

I would liek to do this ride again in the spring to celebrate my forum birthday!

But want to keep the pace up to a reasonably high level not racing or anything rediculous but to get some early year fitness into the legs, so would like to limit the number of riders as i cant stand waiting for p*nctures etc.

So i was thinking matbe the first 30 to sign up

Would be wicked to see some of the same people as last time, so some exceptions will be made. in terms of dates im thinking april some time, wouldnt want to but in on fresh's vintage jersey ride.

Southend's a nice one. If you could bear me in mind for when the new thread goes up.

  • Ed, didn't ride last year but would like to come down for this. Any idea on a date? Saturday 18th or 25th would be good for me.

  • Skully is Number 007.

  • Seconding VB--it's confusing to have last year's date in the title. I just did a double take because I'd forgotten that no date had been set yet.
