  • me too.

  • So there's no chance of it working on a 1 1/8' headtube at all?

    Both your Chris King and the Fuji Pro's headset/headtube are 1-1/8th.

    But . . . the Fuji has an integrated headset and the King is a standard threadless headset.

    Chris King have done an incredible marketing job over the years, in my opinion more mythology than practicality, they work great - I have had a few and have one on my current mountain bike, but it is just a bearing !!! That is all, a well made bearing, but just a freaking bearing !!!! :D

  • Wow, that is insane, £620 for a sub 16lb bike - pure mother fucking hip hop slavery !!!

    I do not joke when I say that to pull a ridable bike under 16lbs even 5 years ago might have set you back a couple of grand at least.

    What are you talking about? My 5 year old Condor alu Pista comes in under 6.7kg, and cost less than 600 notes (not that heavily discounted either).

    The Fuji Pro is nice, but as a commuter? And the front fork's not drilled...

    Less than 14.77lbs for less than £600 ! Impressive, what was the spec on your Pista ?

    This is my kinda' lightweight bike (7.39lbs) !

  • no its for track use for me, sorry should explain that eh.

  • tynan, what stem is that?

  • @tynan - nothing fancy - in track mode it's:

    • Deda Fire frame
    • Deda Black Force fork (not a lightweight)
    • Deda BlackStick seatpost (ditto)
    • Deda Big Logo stem (and again)
    • Deda Pista o/s bars (mmm-hmmm, can you see a theme developing)
    • Stronglight track cranks/BB
    • Open Pros on Formulas (not even DB spokes)
    • San Marco Aspide saddle

    Light, but stiff as board. In fact, the ride quality at the rear is sort of dead, so the bike's probably better described: stiff as a corpse.

  • amazing bike, Tynan.

    why are you such a weight maniac? are you a race whippet like BMMF?

  • Wow tynan your bike is really nice. Did you build it yourself?

    7.39lbs is an incredibly light bike. Why not run it as a brakeless fixie? Imagine the weight savings!!

  • A hillclimbing nemesis of mine, Dr James Ward, built up a carbon fixed a year or 2 ago.

    It was impossibly light. At my race weight of 62kg, I was still heavier than James and his bike combined.

    I still beat him last year, helped by the fact his rear hub slipped in one race, and his seatpost in the next. Wonder if he'll be going back to gears like me this year...

    No, unfortunately that bike is not mine :(

    . . . but it is the basis for a bike I am building, might not come in at 7.39lbs - more like 9lbs - but should be good.

    Not mine !! :(

    But yes, if you were to take it down to fixed and brakeless it would be absolutely insane weight wise ! :)

    Sounds pretty nice, stiff to some means harsh, stiff to me means responsive and efficient.

  • It's more responsive than a corpse, but less efficient.

  • Yes, I would love a carbon fixed, it would fucking fly up hills.

    Tynan - have you sped up your avatar in response to VB's new policy on banning 'bat-shit crazy spinning avatars' ? :D

  • A high quality 'overbuilt' carbon framed fixed (with tubs) would fly up hills with the right rider on it, barring mechanical mishaps.

    According to witnesses, my 22lb alu audax framed bike with 1l water bottle, tool kit, pump and tube, mudguards, and 25mm tyres has, on occassions, fucking flown up hills too ;)

    It was already fast this morning. I think it was sped-up a few days ago.

  • Thanks for the posts. I had looked at the Fuji, but wasn't sure about it for everyday use in London as a commuter. Any thoughts on the Langster vs Genesis - or am I totally wrong here?

  • a bit wrong, not too wrong.

  • a bit wrong, not too wrong.

    Go on....

  • Markyboy, newbie myself. Had £400 to spend and no more ;-(
    Bought a Langster (not a city version). No, it's not popular but thought that it represented reasonable value. Looked at others, but then started to think that if I had another £100 I could get a Flyer, another £50 a Pearson and on it went... If I get on with the Langser (so far, so good) I'll ebay it and upgrade...

  • i prefer the look of the flyer, and most of the criticism people have, me included, are fairly irrational fears of the sloping top tube and 'compact' geometry, the aesthetics of the machine.

    i guess bikes are a thing of beauty, and langsters really aren't that beautiful, i've heard they ride very well though and are a solid introduction to fixed wheel.

    the green one is the least offensive one they have done for some time. there's another thread here where people, again me included, espouse the joys of the fuji, which is a lovely bicycle, and i used to ride one, so it must be ok. the other one to consider, if you can find one, is the lemond fillmore, which is excellent value for money.

    if you can afford it i would heartily recommend the pearson touche, i not, go for a flyer.

  • the flyer to me seems the nicest, but i haven't seen a touche in the flesh yet.

  • I've ridden the Charge Plug, The Lemonde Filmore, The Giant Bowery and the Fuji track.
    Because someone new asks about these bikes daily... here's my review, with helpful pictures.

    Charge = Rover V8 (1978)
    Lemonde = Covette (1981)
    Giant = Lada Samara (1994)
    Fuji = Toyota MR2 (1986)

  • Yes, I would love a carbon fixed, it would fucking fly up hills.

    does mine pass muster?
