There should be brakeless training school.
Seriously. If you're gonna do it make sure you've got the experience.
A gentle introduction perhaps... -

Wasn't that the way slamm started? He also hit a van early in his career.
not quite as dramatic as VB makes it seem - I was waiting for my front brake to arrive but was absolutely gagging to ride. Took my bike into work (very slowly, I hasten to add) coz it was Critical Mass that evening and ended up hitting the rear of a pick-up (at very slow speed) when he decided to change his mind when overtaking a stationary bus.
Had my brake for a good while before making it redundant and not had any real problems since (at least nothing beyond my control)Sucks about your mate Max, hope all's well.

I remember the first time I met Slamm he said something along the lines of "I seem to be living up to my name ..," and then told a story that I missed, prob the same one as VB's.

fuck that is nasty. was it upgraded with something that wasn't on it when it was sold??
only upgrade was indeed a brake, black goldfinger to black diacompe. I would never let someone ride first time sans brake.

good work, max.

• #32
Bad luck, I hope the bike was/is returned to its owner.

That's a better situation.

It really wasn't that much of an incident.
I actually decided to change my name to that after my 'finger in the drive train' incident of last Easter which followed the crash I had when an old Eastern European guy in a beat up Cavalier took me out on Fulham road - who then rather comically told me "you fall good no?" - that was a bad week for bike related shenanigans, hence the name change :-) -

hope your mates ok

I passed there yesterday and saw the ambulance, paramedic bike and a police car parked up. He must have been inside the ambulance and the bike was propped against the front of the police car, bars at a right-angle to forks. Police must have it, surely they wouldnt have just left it there?

Ouch! Get better soon
-
• #41
Bad stuff, hope your mate heals quick and well.
Let us know what happened to the bike when you find out, ta.

• #42
Bad luck, and first time out too.
SomeLoadsa drivers have no idea. -

Get well soon to your mate. That corner's a bit of a nightmare, rarely anything comes out of it but when they do they don't give a f*ck what's coming.

My flatmate who bought the converted Armstrong off of Badtmy, rode it to college for the first time yesterday and had a collision on the way home.
At around 3pm, a transit van pulled out of Rivington st onto Shoreditch high st, turning left without looking and took Tom out, Tom landed really awkwardly and has broken his Femur and sustained some other minor injuries. He will not be able to walk for 6 months, and has to undergo surgery, he has no idea where his bike is, he was out of it.. so if anyone sees it, let us know.Stay safe out there, there are a lot of idiots.
Bad news ! And I don't know the fella' but get well soon to Tom ! :(
It is fairly common knowledge that the hospital will tend to give you the worst case scenario with regard to recovery time - a bit like judicial sentencing, 6 months might well mean back on your bike in 3-4 months.
Anyhow - hope he heals up good.
Good ad for brakeless there..
Fucksake £10 for a brake vs. 6 months in hospital. Not saying this is what happened in the OP's friends case just saying we can't have newbies rolling off into the sunset without brakes. How many people have ended in hospital this way? asm, 50x14, slamm(yet to be confirmed), this dude (ytbc),
