ASP/PHP/JSP, bike relevant!

I'm looking for some one that can help with the server side scripting element of an online stolen bikes database.

Onboard so far are a chap who can handle the SQL database side, and another that can handle the IA/Design side.

This is all spare time/not for profit.

Could it be done on here with changes? i.e. a sub-forum for Stolen Bikes, each thread is a bike?

Could it be done with Wordpress? i.e. setup custom fields in Wordpress to capture the attributes of the bike and the where and when, and create a custom template?

You very seldom actually need to create something from new. If you don't use something that pre-exists you have a lot of work to do for RSS feeds, user database, security, stability, scalability, searching. Use existing software, it's what it's there for.

I agree that there is no point reinventing the wheel, and I have considered Wordpress etc.

As you probably know I had a couple of bikes stolen recently, and whilst they were a singlespeed and a fixed gear I want to make something relevant to anyone that cares about the bike they ride, hence it needs to be independant of a particular forum.

LFGSS is one of the most well read and vibrant forums dedicated to cycling in London, or for that matter fixed gear cycling full stop, and thank you very much for the offer of hosting the proposed database.

When I have something worthy of beta testing I shall be asking LFGSS to hammer it in the testing phase- I just need someone to help with the scripting side now!

Neil, talk to chris crash, he has set up a blog for stolen bikes in the London area. If you're keen on doing this it'd be daft not to team up.

Just messaged him- I agree it would be great to team up on this, he has clearly done a lot of work on this.
