  • lidl's for alcoholics. get it if you're one. by the way wine goes well with cheese. you know the verdict.

  • hmm lidl, maybe a bit too cheap.

spend the few extra nuggets and get the Lifeline one. I've been using my kit quite a few times the last few days and it's worth the money.

Doesn't look like the Lidl one has things like a crank puller, which ended up needing yesterday and discovered in my Lifeline kit :) The lifeline one has one of them little magnetic trays too... so useful! :)

  • The lifeline one has one of them little magnetic trays too... so useful! :)

Useful for taking out and sticking on locked bikes in Picadilly?

    No, I'm getting confused again, aren't I...

  • I've found it good just to buy tools as I need them. It's probably more expensive, but at least I don't have a box of tools half of which I don't know what they're for. Having said that, I'm new to mechanics so.... whatever

  • With my tools in Canada I did the buy-as-needed method, but also went for the cheapest possible a lot of the time. This was stupid. My chain-breaker caused sooo much grief. I used a decent one at BLB a couple of days ago and I had no idea breaking a chain didn't mean an automatic 15-30 minutes of hell. SO, this time I'm buying as needed (I have no need for all of those cone wrenches), while also buying good quality.

  • ...I had no idea breaking a chain didn't mean an automatic 15-30 minutes of hell.

Yeah, I know what you mean. The only chain breaker I've ever had was a little one on a Lifeline multitool. Was a bloody nightmare, even with 3/32" chain.

Hopefully the one in the Lifeline toolkit mentioned above that I've got will stand up to the sram 1/8" chain I've got to put on tomorrow. I won't be in the mood to piss about with chains.

  • park tool has a chain breaker tool call ct-5 that I bought for £6 in ebay. Amaizing.

  • lifeline chainbreaker = good, did my sram pc-1 chain fine.
lifeline cable cutters = crap. cut cable fine, but just mashes cable housing.

I'm off to Homebase to get some decent cutters!

  • I just got hubjubs's "cracker" chainbreaker. £15 a lot but its some quality shit.
