Wheelbuilders in Manchester?!

  • As the title says really.... I have an open pro rim and a hub that I could do with being built up and another one building from scratch, but who's best in the Manchester area?!

    Thanks!!

  • there is a tiny shop behind sand bar off wilmslow road near the grosvenor area that always had fixed gears outside i think, try that. it is about the size of a garden shed though.

  • A mate of mine Keith he's the mechanic at some old bike shop in Chorlton. He built my phils - cxp33's. Whisper me and and hook you up.

Are you coming? - the festival starts this Friday!

The shop behind Sandbar is Bicycle Boutique, and the shop in Chorlton must be Ken Fosters...

Also check out Harry Halls on Witworth Street West or GBH just off near the top of Tib Street. Both will do you a good job.

  • probably the best wheel builder in central manchester is gonna be guy at harry halls. he's done a lot of wheels for messengers, street fixie riders and track racers. he charges £15 for a build. he's only very very occasionaly had to tweak anything after the initial bedding in period. he normally has a few day turnaround, which can be speeded up with bribes of 1li bottles of san miguel. come and see me at harrys to discuss what you need if you want. we'll probably also have correct spoke length too...

huw - last seen working part time at bike doctor in rusholme would be my second choice.

bikeboutique now pass work onto guy for whatever thats worth

    hope thats been of help

  • Outspoken.
I seriously cannot convey just how good their wheels are.
seriously, seriously good value for money:

  • But surely as everyone rides for purely environmental reasons, why waste those carbon credits on getting wheels posted, when there's perfectly good wheel builders sitting in physical shops, just itching for an opportunity to tweak your nipples...?

  • true, and I could (try) and do it myself, but I live in Oxford, so either:
    (a) assuming I have the time [big no at the moment exams loom] build it myself
    (b) trouble an already very busy OCW for wheel builds.

or (c) get it posted all the way from cambridge. And hey, the van was probably going to come anyway!
