• Hi all, newish to the forum, so Hi again.
Just wondering if anyone knew of anything or had any ideas on not recking the rear dropouts.
Im having a fixed frame re-sprayed at my LBS, but once its sprayed Id like it not to get scratched everytime I take out/put back and re-tighten the rear wheel.
Could anyone let me know of any little protector contraptions please?
    Thanks all.
    Jamie

  • Get them chromed otherwise live with it - any scratches are not really going to be that visible anyway. Bikes should look like they've been ridden IMO.

  • Yeah, by all means get some chainstay protection, but generally track ends work better when the paint has chipped away a bit.

No one will think you've let the side down if there's bare metal visible at the rear.

  • hi jamie, i am with platini, wouldn't worry about a few scratches in the dropouts. was just wondering what LBS does resprays? where are you based dude?

  • don't put anything on, especially plastic, your axle will be slipping all over the place, best to do as all above have said, leave as they are.

  • What about those shiny bits some ends have on - not all chrome ends - can they be retro fitted? It might help me as I have an alignment issue on a frame someone sold me - ahem - thought it might work as I could raise or lower one a mm or two to fix it.

  • Put your wheels on the bike, then respray...

  • get shiny stainless steel drop-out inserted.

  • Thanks fellas, Ill live with it as you say, worth an ask though. Im based in Woolwich, by LBS is HARRY PERRY CYCLES. I take my frame in, a couple of days later its all different. He obviously takes it to his sprayer, but great service. Others sprays on my road frames have always been handsome. - Probably on a different thread but many from Woolwich on here? Would like to join in one of your night rides, looks tops.

  • you could get thin stainless steel sections brazed over the track end, in a similar shape to the raised section of that track end above, then file the paint off the raised section leaving shiney metal that will not rust.

    like this:

  • its all about those carbon frames that have replaceable drops, if you don't have one, i wont talk to you (a good thing most likely).
