I'd be interested in this too, I've got the same phone.
A mate of mine wrote a program that logs GPS position and speed, with the option to simultaneously upload over GPRS to allow others to follow your progress in real time on google earth which is pretty ace. Not managed to grab a copy off him yet though :(

Memory map is fantastic, but it doesn't communicate with the the GPS on PDA's the same way as the it does with a Garmin GPS for instance........or it don't on mine anyway.

Ok for all those with smartphones, pdas with gps I've found amazing cheap software...
gps tuner www.gpstuner.com
does everything I wanted, record tracks, create, upload and follow routes, export tracks and routes to google earth, loads of trip detail, digital compass, real-time map display....and amazingly it's only £12!!!!
Best of all though you don't pay for more maps!!! it automatically downloads free maps as you travel (not too bad on my new 250mb a month data plan for 6 quid from orange) but even better it comes with free map creation software, you can generate maps from google maps (and others), you can even scan in paper maps and calibrate them for use.....!!! UNDGLAUBLICH!
P.S. I'm not a salesman.
Just got a free upgrade to ann HTC TYTYN II.
Only just realised it comes with a built in gps receiver...have tested with google maps for mobile and it works!
googlemaps is pretty limited....cany any one recommend gps software suitable for hiking / mtb / rod cycling....if free / cheap even better!
