unless you've actually got an injury (if you do get it checked asap - knees are right buggers if left with injury) then your best bet is to:
avoid crossing legs, or sitting in any way which twists your knee
take a supplement - fish oil or similar - to keep your joints lubed.
cycling is non-impact so you don't need to worry there. but maybe until it settles down avoid pushing heavy gears up hills, etc.
and I doubt its the cages doing anything to your knees.
