  • so im going to fess up. im an imposter. i live in bristol not london but my girl lives there so i dont feel so guilty. anyhow, i want to come on the sheldon memorial ride next weekend and basically im broke. no car, no money for a train or even for gas contributions but i wanna get up there. does anyone know anyone who is driveing to london past/from bristol next weekend who might have room for a freeloader and a bike? anyone? there is the challenge, get to it. cheers all. oh and back again on the sunday night/monday morning?

  • um. no. im sure shel would have prefered it but ya know. No. i am guessing that at some point im gonna get told to harden the fuck up but stil no. thanks though.

  • if you look at megabus.com you can get a one way for 4.50 inc booking fee. Cheep!

  • true. they dont let people take bikes though. ditto to national hexpress. hence the cry for a lift...

national express (train) does, don't they?

    Bastards!

  • What you could do:
    Remove front wheel.
    Remove back wheel.
Condense into box no bigger than a large suitcase.
    Take bus.

Or you could cry out for a Brompton, then take the bus.

yep i imagine the train does but the fares are the same as normal train fares which is a minimum of 20 quid return. i know thats not such bad value but at the moment its a luxury i cant afford unfortunately.

  • Gumtree has a lifts section I think. Sort of a virtual hitch hiking system. You would still need to pack your bike up in box though like MA3K says as most people would not want oil everywhere in their car. YOu have some time so possible to find some one and ask about the possibility of a package of what ever size you can pack your bike down to.

national express bus wont allow non folding bikes but i might shoot them a mail asking about bike in boxes. it'd be lighter than a suitcase but bigger. same goes for the megabus. also thats fine on the way there but finding a bike box at the bus station on the way home may get tricky. brompton? did someone say something about a brompton? no didnt think so.

  • yep gumtree is gonna get done later on today, ive done it before but never asked for a free ride. lets see how generous the general public can be.

EDIT: Never done it myself either but next time I am driving somewhere I will definatly check it out looks like a good system. I hate driving on my own.

  • nice one brick, im gonna get on it later on today. cheers.

  • Dismantle your bike, wrap it in binbags and duck tape. Ripp off and buid up when you get there. Sorted.

  • Are you sorted for a lift yet?

I'm going to be driving past on Friday.........coming back to London from Devon with plenty of space for a person and a bike.

  • done creigslist rides in the states, good fun. most memorable one was the woman giving us a lifts "show dog" humping my mate for 3 days straight.

  • i've only got a show pony, probably won't do as much damage in 90 minutes as a dog in 3 days.......probably
