Building an Small (46cm?) SS/FG - Frames (et Al)?

Posted on
  • So I've been inspired by all my lurking, and I'm going to build a bike (up to this point, the most complicated thing I've done is grease the bearings in a Dura Ace track hub - and the second time I tried to do it my chain whip broke, which scared the shit out of me [then the wheels were stolen]). So let me ask, where is the best place to get a cheap (used or not) frame? Ebay? I'm looking for something that could make an SS or FG for a girl of 5'3"/5'4" (about 1.6m) with a 30.5" inside leg length. I think her last frame (touring) was 16" (41cm), but this web page says she could ride pretty much any size (41-51cm!)?? Anybody have anything kicking around?

I'm gonna be building my first bike from scratch, so I'll also need everything else as well, but nothing fancy. If someone has a tonne of parts kicking around that would work well, let me know and we'll talk.

  • I saw the Pista. Good deal (for now). But I do want to give building it myself a shot. And £120 for all the parts sounds convenient, but if I can piece it together myself and save the monies, I'd rather do that.

SO! I'll definitely need that stuff, so let me know.

  • Roberto -hes got a few small frames and a bunch of stuff to get you going (BB, seats, chains etc).

  • Nice stuff but I didn't notice anything the right size that was drilled for a rear break. I'm gonna send him a message to see though. Thanks!

  • no worries. Its gona be hard finding a track bike at 41cm (i think near impossible). Give a call to Jos aswell - he got some nice frames, possibly the odd small frame?

  • Dolan do a 'Kadet' Track frame in 45.
To be honest, I think you're looking at a 45-50 cm frame minimum.
41 will be too small (16 inches).
Her inside leg is long too, so go for the high end of that range.

Yeah, and if I go to the upper range, I could probably get away with using it as my pub bike ;) And of course, a 50 is going to be way easier to find.

  • Hi,

I've got a Bianchi Cromo Frame, curved chainstays, drilled dropouts for sale. The spray jobs not great but the frame is in good condition no dings or anything. I've recently bought it and it's too small for me it's about 51cm. So I'm selling the frame and fork to fund a replacement. Obviously the headset and BB come with the frame.

    £130 posted or 120 collected.
