(If you're referring to 165 or 170, which I'm guessing you are, i'd go for 165 if it's going on a conversion, due to the lower BB height on road specific frames. 165 will make your crank's turning circle a centimetre smaller, which means less leverage which means it's relatively harder to turn the same gear with 165 vs 170. I didn't think i'd be able to tell the difference, but i definitely can. For me the gear ratio 46x17 feels heavier than 48x17 because of the 165-170 difference. I guess it could've been another factor though)
