  • This guy nearly ran over me last week.
I was riding down the outside of the traffic on Regent Street and then he pulled out across my path.
I didn't even attempt to brake as that would have put me under his near bonnet or boot proper but just screamed and swerved out as wide as I could.
He struck me on the back wheel at the yellow line you can see on the photo and pushed the rear of my bike a foot or two off its line.
I managed not to fall over but he pizza-tray(ed) my back wheel, which I had fixed but isn't perfect.
Police where on the scene in seconds and I got a witness so how do I go about seeking recompense for my time, repair bill and general fright from nearly being T-boned?

  • That was lucky man - especially that the police were actually THERE and you got a witness... And you weren't crushed. I think you just make an insurance claim... just call his company with his deets and they'll take you from there. If you wanna get nasty you can speak to a solicitor who'll sort you out for things like travel when your bike was fucked etc...

  • for the ladies...

  • TFL sticker in his back window? A good publicity shot methinks.....

  • you know what those taxis with TFL stickers are right fuckers - i honestly have had a few close calls with them and I've only noticed them recently - if you see one on the back of a car be careful - treat as cunt.

  • i've noticed that TFL stickers generally correlate to the least attentive drivers (no indicators, etc).

EDIT ^^^ yeah what he said

  • what is it with those "private hire" stickers they have in the back window?

why are they made to look like official TFL things?

those and the yellow discs = cyclist killer.(edit: two people said it already!)

without exception, they all drive like cunts. I wonder how many passed a UK test and know the current highway code?

yet they can charge to carry passengers?

sorry to go off on a tangent here.

take the fucker to the cleaners, before he kills some poor cunt

  • from the published TFL guidelines for PHV drivers:

Red routes are important corridors that rely on
traffic being able to flow freely. Please remember:
    • You must consider the impact your stopping
on red routes will have on other road users,
    especially cyclists and buses
    • Make sure that it is safe to stop, and remember
that other road users may not be expecting you to
pull over. Look out particularly for cyclists who
might be forced into the traffic flow by your action

bold sections as they are on page:

    here

+1! one of them fckn private hire cars, big new silver merc, overtook me then turned left at speed without indicating. cnt.

+1! one of them fckn private hire cars, big new silver merc, overtook me then turned left at speed without indicating. cnt.[/quote] Ah, that is one of my most hated road maneuvers. This always happens to me as I head off the brick layers roundabout onto old kent road. There is a slight incline, people speed past then just swerve in front without even looking.

Oh yeah, and just got with the insurance. Either that or no win no fee. However that sort of thing gets you loads of bad karma.

  • RPM what is it with those "private hire" stickers they have in the back window?

why are they made to look like official TFL things?
So that people don't get into unlicensed minicabs and find themselves being analy raped on an industrial estate in Slough

That's exactly how I got knocked off once then the cunt drove off!! My front wheel was like a Pringle!

  • I nearly got hit twice on my way to work today. Once by a lovely bus driver that not only nearly got me but an old lady on a lovely three wheeled bike and then by a guy that pulled without looking and nearly got me and then an old lady crossing the road.

I mean the fact that some drivers are often c*nts towards cyclists is a given but leave the old folk alone.

  • i bet the Pope in the back seat shat himself. glad you are okay ma3k

I since discovered they are, in fact, actual TFL stickers to allow licensed minicabs to stop on red routes to pick up/drop off fares without getting a £120 fine.

This dispensation obviously extends to dangerous driving and driving without due care and attention, failing to stop at a red light, failing to stop after a RTA and most speed limits.

  • Does it mean they don't need ot pay the congestion charge?

  • I had a similar thing happen except with a dual carriageway, and I was between the two lines of traffic.
I got the guys details (insurance company, policy number etc.), phoned them up and told them how much the bill was and where to send the cheque. It helped that the driver had contacted them previously to expect a call, but you should have a good case as you have the fuzz involved, which i didn't.
I got a cheque 3 months later - I think the insurance dicks benefit overall as the driver's premiums go up for a few years and cover the cost of the payout with profit, so although they make out that you won't get any money, you know they'll give you some if it makes them a profit.

  • hael

I thought you were going to knife me up on Wednesday night, not talking to you until you buy me a chocolate cake or something.

  • haha!!

  • provenrad Does it mean they don't need ot pay the congestion charge?

  • I started this thread for exactly this reason. However I didn't go into pursuing a civil case (meaning sue for wrongdoing in civil court). I believe that if the insurance pays you for damages it's probably considered a closed case. You can only sue in civil court for money, lost work, that sort of thing. If the cops are already pressing charges then this may not be necessary. It's probably only necessary if his insurance company isn't paying you what the damages are worth.

You need to have your police reference number
    You should contact a solicitor

Here is the page you go to to file a claim and to get more info.

Please add any facts you learn through the process to the thread I linked to above.
