I've had BE for a just over a year now, had problems initially with the install but that was actually BT's fault i think.
there customer service center is based in Belgium i think which leads to a pretty shit service.
I have copies of the e-mail exchange with them where they apologies for any "incontinence"caused...
they dropped their prices but kept charging us the old rate as well.Line is pretty fast and never really any down time. 3month contract although this now has dodgy wording if cut before 12
they are owned by 02 as mentioned so i would go with the 02 version. -

o2 i was a bit hesitant.. but no probs what so ever. scottish call center open til late.. no disconnects that i have noticed. Great speed and cheap price.
I game a lot and pings great.
definate reccommendation from me. £10 with/£12.50 without contract.
No i dont work for them!

yeah, but it's going to cost me a couple hundred for a comfuser?!?
-
• #31
Dogs, where are you? im in w12 and got this my-now wireless.
its 256k for 10 quid a month, they just send it in a box, plug it in off you go! simple. its fine for web browsing and small downloads.
And then rinse the 10Mb SDSL line at work :D

Go with Virgin PAYG, no minimum contract which is good.
I moved to "be" recently because it is much faster.

happy with Virgin cable here.
Had Tiscali for a while. Shit.

teenslain I'd avoid Carphone Warehouse if poss, they are a nightmare if anything goes wrong...
TalkTalk are absolutely poo on their 1st line support, but if you can get to the second line... oh, yes they're good.
1st line support is offshore - there is a language problem to say the least and they don't wanna know unless you've already tried all the usual suspect problems.
However, if you breach the defences of the 1st line it gets much better, they kept phoning me back for a week to see if the connection was good, would I like cream with that, sir? etc.. Even threw in a brand new ADSL modem/router for free after the first time they called back! My mate also had a similar experience so i'm not the only one - credit where its due.

Avoid AOL like the plague. Anything to do with Carphone Warehouse is probably a con.
Be-there is the best deal around at the moment and very good customer service -
• #37
virgin cable for me...it's not adsl...it comes down your own dedicated fibre optic cable and doesn't slow down when half the people on your block are surfing...
-
• #38
virgin here too, no problemo.

Had BE (http://www.bethere.co.uk/) since I arrived in Lundun. Initially the £24/mth 24Mbit service and now the cheaper £14 8Mbit service. Great.

in the same sitch with move on sat. will check for a deal via my mobile, orange, otherwise looks Virgin gets the most thumbs up. and i think the previous renters had it via virgin so reckon on some of whatever needs to be in place is in place

Don't use tiscali!!! We had a absolute mare trying to leave them.
Basically they lie and break the law to keep customers. 2 months negotiation with Ofcom to get them to free up the line. Total CU*TS.
Plus their customer service people are really rude and useless.

When we first moved to London we went for Tiscali ('cause it's cheap). They told us initially it'd be two weeks for service. Fair enough. Called back two weeks later, said there was a problem, 2 more weeks. Fine. Two weeks later called again, said there was a problem, they didn't know what it was, and didn't know when they'd be able to hook us up. Hung up, called BT, had a connection two days later.
BT has been okay. The hubs they give away are total crap, but they replaced my first one without any problems. I also use opendns rather than they're DNS setup (I think they get the hub to serve? Not sure really).
I would be using Be had they serviced our connection when we moved here (they do now, but too late).

depends if you have a BT landline (dogs you don't have one, do you), cos if you don't it costs £125 to have one installed.
some ISPs don't need a BT landline, but most do (not much naked DSL in the UK yet).Virgin don't. This is good, i'm getting virgin cable when i move to my new place.
as for getting a computer, steal one from work! rob a city boy!

Virgin; if you can get it on fibre optic. If you've got a phone line, and you're in the right area, they'll put an optic in for free. 85 TV channels, movies on demand, 4Mb broadband and phone for about £40 per month. Service so far has been really good. Haven't needed support.

I echo all the comments that say Virgin = good, Tiscali = bad. Quite a universal consensus it would seem.
Also, Carphone Warehouse are the worst company I've ever dealt with and I'd advise anyone against doing any kind of business with them. They lie relentlessly. -

i do have BT landline, but don't use it.
-
• #49
yeah, get cable if you can (from virgin).
ADSL is a bit shit by comparisson. -
• #50
B Broadband are excellent - ADSL2 so fast and also works fine with Macs!
i'm on talktalk
bit shit really but good price for you with phonecalls thrown in. Never pay more than £25 a month for both.
Never anywhere near the 'up to' 8mbps.
Customer service - bad.
Occasional unexplained downtime.
