  • After a year and a half I have finally finished my fixed gear build. Ideally it isn't what I actually wanted, but (like most people) I decided to start riding fixed my doing a cheap build. Unfortunately the cheap bit went out of the window a long time ago!

In case anyone wants to know, the frame is an aluminium NYCBikes Cityfixed with the brake cable bosses removed and powder coated in RAL 2004 (pure orange) by Armourtex with their usual great service. Hubs are Maillard rear and Normandy front, rims are old Mavics (I don't even know the type), and the tyres are GP4000's (sorry hippy). Chainset is a Campag Centaur road crank with a Miche 47 ring bolted onto a loose bearing Campag BB, and coupled with an EAI 18T cog (1/2" drive"). Seatpost is an old Shitmano (I have sinned) 600 aeropost linked to an old Selle Italia saddle I had knocking around. Up front is a Chris King headset with some crappy stem from eBay with a nice Nitto bullhorn bar, covered in orange old school Benotto tape. Front brake (poof) is a Campag Centaur.

As mentioned before, it isn't exactly what I want, but it'll do until I can get my hands on a steel frame, and when that happens I can just swap most of the bits over.

Many thanks to Brett for the continuous kicks up the arse to get it done, plus persuading my work to buy me the tyres as my birthday present, Dale for rear axle advice, Anthony (Wolfenger) for making up a set of rear axle spacers (you are a top man), and Scarlett for the track end hints and tips (it worked a treat BTW, and without the need for a shim).

I await your abuse with great anticipation!
