My "Pac" band has the X strap and works great for working a a messenger and having heavy shit in your back all day, the backpacks are less convenient as you have to take the darn completely off your back to get something out. But then again pac bags are very expensive. The Archie bags have the X-strap also are as practical :), but I have no patience in that respect... :$
