• might seem like an easy call. but hear me out!

i can get a Fuji new here (Japan) for £300, or i can get a Surly shipped out from http://www.jensonusa.com, for £450 (they are £700 here in Japan). http://www.jensonusa.com/store/product/BI310L00-Surly+Steamroller+Complete+Bicycle.aspx + $160 postage

(or i can get a Steamroller frame for £200 plus $100 postage)

so. this is my first time getting a fixed, and dont wanna spend ALL my money, but the Surly seems like a good deal!

anyone heard any horror stories of shipped bikes? or importing stuff into Japan?

dont wanna keep boring you all with questions, but, well, i dont wanna buy the wrong thing!

  • That complete Surly would last alot longer than the Fuji. Much better components there. Just make sure that they still have everything the same, or better, because that pic looks like an '06 frame.

  • its the same picture thats on the Surly website though.

  • Surly's are solid. Go for the steamroller.

  • Like "a glaringly obvious, yet inconsequential, mark on my frame" or "an excuse to buy another bike", depending on how you'd like to spin it ;]

  • wooohh, guys

  • Are we going to be living together and riding the same frame?

  • I can't wait to move in with you guys :)...

  • pete its the same picture thats on the Surly website though.

Yea, Surly's site doesn't look like it's changed in years. Although, they used to call it 'boston baked bean brown' instead of maroon and it was actually '05 as '06 was gray, '07 was black/charcoal so apparently '08 is maroon.

If you do go for the Surly I would recommend sizing down a notch, they tend to be a touch long.

  • surly over the fuji.

if it was me, i'd buy the frame rather than the bike. the components on the bike seem a bit 'alright' rather than 'good'. plus building bikes = good. i think so anyway :)

  • buy the fuji, spend the remainder on manga tentacle pr0n.
