+1 there hippy, I'm down to the mesh bit in places, which is below the red rubber which is below the black rubber - and it still could laugh off an IED.
As for skidding, you probably have a front brake. Pull it hard on a wet corner. Should skid nicely, if briefly ;)
Genuinely, a little bit of front brake shifts the weight forward and makes it easier to get the rear into a skid.
