[cite]hael: http://www.londonfgss.com/discussion/1213/:[/cite]Ma3k and I spent the night at hammersmith station a while ago, we ran a deserted red light then saw the blue lights come on, thought ah fook, decided we werent stopping proceded to sprint down what we thought was a side street.. ended up at a dead end! so turned to welcome the approaching police car then I dunno why we did but we both took off again past the old bill ...after about 10 min of the slowest car chase you would ever see with a copper hanging out the window shouting "stop you CUNTS!" we got cut off by another cop car and van.. I remeber being hauled to the ground still clipped in getting cuffed and a big Kojack looking copper saying to me "Could you not hear the siren?? or see the lights!!" I replied "oh they were for me?" we got bundled down the station (after they stopped at the garage to buy something) While searching my bag they were asking how much we had to drink I replied "2 beers each" he then proceded to pull out 4 of the clear plastic 6 pack holders and raised an eyebrow, in the back ground I could see Ma3k getting shoved forward in to the holding cells asking "why the fuck [the other copper] is he putting rubber gloves on?".
They let me go after about 5 hours, but kept Ma3k in cause he gave them every address he had previously live at in the last 10 years. started to cycle home and after about 5 min I heard a car come up behind me and police sirens come on.. thought oh for fuck sake, but ill stop this time turned round and it was the same fuckers they just kept driving pissing them selfs laughing ...lol bastards, id have done the same.believe it or not nothing came of it, just locked us up and let us go. Tho I think ill just stop next time..

i ran from the police, they chased me on their pushbikes with the sirens blaring.
eventually, i realized they probably thought i was a terrorist and they might call for backup and gun me down so i stopped.
they let me go after realizing i wasn't a terrorist and i just didn't want to get the red-light fine.

What the hell do you lot do that requires running from cops? I've been spoken to by maybe 3 cops in 3 years.

i find that if you don't break the law the police tend to leave you alone.

I has to be noted that the only reason I got binned that night is because, after escaping I came back to check on Mike.
I had a nice kip and they set me free in the morning.

good story! if you'd known the roads better reckon you would've got away? or would they have called the chopper in?
"i find that if you don't break the law the police tend to leave you alone."
but the law on how bikes should use the road is generally agreed to be shit (and prejudicial to cyclists' safety...). so the only reason to obey it is the risk of it being enforced. there's no moral reason to obey shit law just because it is law, if it can't be enforced.

I got pulled for an RLJ in Brixton last week and the cycle hobby bobbie actually thanked me for stopping!?! Nice chap, tbh I think he just wanted a closer look at the bike, bent my ear to me for aaaaaages about it! Shoulda told him about the forum... ;)
I used to get 'attempted' pulls LOADS of times on my BMX on the way to the pub, but I was going the wrong way around a huge roundabout, the filth can't really chase you in that kinda situation... -

if you turn the wrong way up a one way into (between) oncoming traffic that is moving there is no one in the world who is going to follow you.

About 15 years ago I was coming back from a club ride, cycling alongside another rider. Alll of a sudden this white Escort starts sounding its horn and trying to overtake - I turn around to see the driver waving wildly at me. At this moment the old ginger gene takes over and I tell the driver to fuck off etc... He overtakes and stops in the middle of the road. Can't get around him so stop as well. He then gets out of the car in his uniform - special cuntstable! Tells me that he's going to arrest me, told him to do it and that if he did I'd sue him for false arrest. Get back in his car and on his way...
Having said that, while I was at Uni Brighton Police had cops on mountain bikes, one of which was a UK mountain bike champion - not many people tended to outrun him.

Tend to is not an absoulute.
I have been stopped and searched for no other reason then "you were pedaling in a suspicious manner".

i find the police tend to harass any one they don't like the look of regardless of weather a law is being broken.

To be honest I couldn't blame them.
I wouldn't like the look of me.

i have been stopped (but not searched) and was singled out because i have a beard and at the time was wearing a leather jacket.
was given the once over by a sniffer dog which took up about a minute of my time which i don't have a problem with.
i wouldn't grumble about being stopped again as i have nothing to hide. -

Ride through the car park behind Lewisham High St and you'll be fine... muppet

Stopped once for riding with no lights on the pavement years ago, then a few weeks ago running a red on Vauxhall bridge road. No fines; however I think making a run for it would be a good way of getting one though!
In answer to the 1st post, I have CRB (criminal record bureau) checks and fines/cautions/etc don't show up, neither do "spent convictions." Basically you would have to do something pretty bad with your bike to get a criminal record, like beat someone to death with the seat post.

i have a caution and it doesn't show up on an enhanced disclosure form. i still have to fucking declare it though, every time i go for a new job.

you think thats bad, try having my rap sheet, at least the juvenile charge is sealed, so i dont have a pattern of "interfering with police athourity"
-
• #24
do you have to declare cautions? i got 2, one before i was 18 but don't think I have to declare them "i hate law" has a double meaning eh
-

Only ever mention my 'rap sheet' (involved a year at her madges pleasure) if asked directly by police.
The police always open with the 'are you known to us sir' which takes care of that bit of social niceness. I was under the impression that cautions do not have to be declared...
Mentioned this in another thread but thought would ask here also. I've often run from cops when I think they've seen me doing bad shit, but I've always stopped when the siren blares. It's cost me a lot of time and about £60 so I'm beginning to think about simply not stopping, as I don't think they can catch you:
what's your experience of escaping the OB?
What's the best way to escape a police motorbike/car? Can you rely on speed alone or do you have to rely on tactical backstreet/route choices?
how fast/effective are police cyclists?
What type of circumstance is favourable to fleeing if they try to pull you over? Heavy traffic presumably. Is escaping possible if there is no traffic?
Will police follow you the wrong way down a one-way street?
What is the probability of them calling for backup? (THIS IS MY KEY WORRY)
What is the probability of them recognising your bike a week later, or getting an image of you? (given that we all ride unique bikes)
What is the worst that can happen if they catch you? Obviously, you're going to the Station, but can they charge you with anything that will give you a proper record? Will you have to go to Court? If you want to be a teacher or a doctor or something where the professional organisation does an official record check, will being arrested in this capacity fuck over your chances of qualifying?
anything else that I've missed?
