chris crash if your after a "bike for life" i would go for them, and a road/ touring geo and possibly get two forks one with a 45 degree rake for every day riding, and one that straight bladed for the track (to tighten up the geo a bit).
when i build my self a touring frame its getting those ends so i can do either fixed or geared touring depending on my mood and the type of ride.
I wouldn't try and race on the track and tour on the same frame, even with different forks. You're gonna need clearance for at least 35s + mudgurads at the front (big a-c measurement as well as 45mm rake) and back (long chainstays). Add in a more releaxed head and set tube angles and a slightly lower BB and I can't see the frame being any good on the track. Fixed gear on the road though would be awesome for long rides and light touring
