  • realenger thankyou ihate, most diplomatic.

hael - i find the term pikey particulalry offensive as it is symptomatic of the last form of politically and socially accepted racism in our time - that targeted against the romany people. chav has a similar etymology, no matter what the girls from cheltenham ladies college would have us believe. use of the word 'gay' in a derogatory sense would not cause me to intervene, but only because i feel less of a compulsion to address an issue which certainly gets more exposure than the romani racism one. if pushed yes i object to its use in this sense.

what about gypo, that has to be worse than pikey!?!

  • i'm quite certain Mr. ihatelaw meant no harm to the Romany community FOR FUCKS SAKE.

  • realenger thankyou ihate, most diplomatic.

Thanks for that, I had always taken the word to mean reference to someone that behaves in an anti social manner, but after reading your response I made a trip to wikipedia: [ame=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pikey]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pikey[/ame]

always good to learn something new :)

  • off target but I have been laughing at this for the last five minutes solid:

"There's a company in London that does after hours booze to your door. They deliver everything in one of two Smart cars. Trouble is they're losing loads of money having to pay constant parking fines, even though they have parking bays outside their office. They appear to have pissed off the local yoot who come along everynight, pick up the Smart cars and move them, sticking them on double yellows, on the pavement, anywhere that will get them a fine. Best was the time they left them in the middle of a local roundabout."

  • dogs - yes, i think it is.

super - i agree, but i thought he might have. he has demonstrated that he does not.

  • realenger 'pikey looking'

what the fuck is this even meant to mean? Im sympathetic to you pedicament but not to this desc.

everyone knows what pikey looking means. you know, just pikey looking.

  • could have been worse the police have the power to remove bikes from trafalgar square as they count it as a bomb threat.

  • I'm guessing you had one of these

If so you can get new brackets from any cateye dealer.

Also find out who has the contract for th cctv in trafalga Sq and apply for the footage of you under the freedom of imformation act, which will cost you 10 quid. Use this to show English Herritage the behaviour of their hired help.
Thats if you can be arsed.

  • so English Heritage wardens are hired thugs?

    how very bizzare.

I've given up fighting these days, but I think the man in question needs to be made to understand the error of his actions and subsequent behaviour.

  • Especially as he was "quote" (the only English one) and clearly should know better!

WTF has his nationality got to do with anything?

He sounds like a dick, wherever hes from, but wtf?!

  • RPM

I think the man in question needs to be made to understand the error of his actions and subsequent behaviour.
RPM you sound like Walter from the Big Lebowski, in a good way ;o)

  • it's funny, i'd have expected English Heritage Wardens to be calm, bearded folk with clipboards.

  • yep - it's that light! didn't realise replacement fittings were available. Result - end of story - cheers!

re: my reference to "only english one", i'm just relaying the series of events. no subtext intended. He WAS the only english one!

though, actually, i did get the impression that HE very much saw himself as "the only english one" in a less than benign way, like he thought the other guy was not capable of arguing the issue by himself...I mean my quarrel was with his colleague and he took it out of his hands for no apparent reason?

edit: plus - I'm not English either!

  • maybe he was in training?

    short beard.. short temper.

write a letter to the man in charge.

follow it up with a phone call, and another letter, until you get satisfaction.

  • Just write to English Heritage, point out the damage to your bike with a photo, tell them that their warden was aggresive and could be reported for criminal damage and that you expect them to make good - I'd be suprised if they didn't just apologise and send you a cheque...

  • wiggle sell cateye light brackets and clamps separately

  • This is Trafalgar Square my friend.

Actually, I would have done everything you did, apart from say I was a lawyer. Write a letter. Or HUFU.

  • i would get the fucker sacked, and try to get a new frame out of it (scratched innit)... or throw mtbs at him every day for a week.

  • [cite]ihatelaw:[/cite] pirate-like, unshaven but not a beard

This ones easy give him a treasure map with a red cross on it, when he finds the X, make sure theres a land-mine waiting. job done.

  • realenger thankyou ihate, most diplomatic.

  • know thy pikey know thine enemy or enema jibber jabber......

  • Bicycles are apparently not a part of English heritage.

  • fighting and acting like an idiot is... should i say that when the ECO asks me how i will adapt to English culture?

  • London hates bikes.
