• I've just bought a pair of old Campag quill pedals on ebay and I'm looking for some information on the straps. There is a name on the strap - just about visible - that looks like CORNEZ. It has some smaller writing next to it. Are they worth saving? The clips look like Midland supreme and one of them is broken. Are these worth saving?

    Cheers
    Anthony

  • never heard of them, but that means nothing.

  • If you want new old clips check out Peter Paine's site on GB stuff, you can link to it from classic lightweights... He sold me some lovely chromed steel ones, not too pricey either.

Cornez... I've never heard of those... might it say 'LAPIZE'? (Well, there's a Z in it...!) Dave at universalcyclecentre.co.uk has various NOS Lapize straps. And Campy clips come to that.

  • "Cornez toeclips and toestraps are named for Fernand Cornez"
"Fernand Cornez, a French rider who rode as a pro from 1928"

    Cornez 1940's - 1950's

    France
Named after Fernand Cornez, a French rider who rode as a pro from 1928 to 1938. Cornez won a stage in the 1933 Giro as well as stage 5 of the 1933 Paris-Nice race..

  • dave at the universalcyclecentre is the slowest man on the earth. god they have nice stuff, just don't expect it to arrive for a month or to.

  • Yeah, he's not the fastest at responding to email either, but if you call him he's really helpful. I've never waited more than a few days for stuff from him..

  • Here are some pics of the clips and straps

The more I look at them the more I just think 'Bin!'. The clip could be brazed and then re chromed if they're worth keeping. We have a good platers we use through work who could sneak 'em in with the next batch of plating they're doing. But are they worth it?

the adjustable clips are worth a few coins. a pair of brooks ones without the bolts went for something like £40-50 in jan on the bay ;)

use the strap to hold/carry things. very useful!!

  • The straps look a bit knackered though. Might be worth binning 'em and swapping with fresh ones.

  • The other clip isn't broken. Interesting to know that adjustable pedals are sought after. All of the bolts are there and in good order. I've just found out that the pedals are the Campagnolo Gran Sport from the late 50's so are an ideal period piece for the Ryall. I managed to scoop a really top notch pair of Lyotards with Christophe clips and straps yesterday for £10 on the bay so I'll have to wait and see which look nicer. Either way the Pug'll get a nice pair of pedals.
