Signal, Manoeuvre

  • what's the point...?

are arms not high tech enough these days for signalling?

  • A guy didn't see my arms this morning, almost got run over by an Audi (registration plate VG1). Thankfully two mounted police watched it happen and gave him a right telling off.

  • if they don't see arms then as you've proven what chance do they have at seeing some blinking LEDs on the back of your bag/coat

  • I think it's a great idea and would def. work on bags. Only thing is do other road users know what they are looking at or what it means ?!

  • if the led were all the way up your arm it would be brilliant....again on a bag it would be great.

blimey, i'm well surprised that you both think it's good.

i don't drive myself, but im thinking drivers have enough things to look at already.

  • hows it work?

i like to keep my hands on my bike

  • It would be worse if a fool decided just to rely on some blinking lights, all kinds of issues here, batteries, LED integrity/intensity over the garment life.

There is no better substitute for your arms yet, this at best is supplementary.

  • i meant that i wouldnt be pressing jacket butons with my hands while riding... i dont stick my arms out into traffic either, car gets out of my way, or i find room around it, no need to signal.

  • Nothing more cringe inducing than seeing a member of the commuter brigade stick out their arm ramrod straight then proceed to slowly drag across the lane.

  • I doesn't make a difference what you do when they're not even looking out for you.

i remember one fine W1-WC1-W1 run at 5 and getting slapped in the face by a brompton rider who figured she was signaling...

    bloody hell...

when will people learn to look over their shoulder! motorcyclists don't call it the 'lifesaver' for no reason.

  • when i'm driving i have a hard enough time texting, eating smelly food and trying to tune into to magic FM to even consider looking at a cyclist.

  • pj when i'm driving i have a hard enough time texting, eating smelly food and trying to tune into to magic FM to even consider looking at a cyclist.

    Word.

  • I don't like taking my hand of the handlebars to signal

so I just assume they can't see me and move invisibly in the gaps

  • haha chris... it's funny how people seem to think that wearing a helmet (incorrectly) and a fluorescent jacket gives them the right to not actually look where they're going. One lady did something similar to me, stuck out her hand then just lazily drifted straight across my path, i gave a yelp of terror and she looked at me as if i'd done something wrong!! God help her.. i can't believe people like this aren't getting run over left right and center.

  • i had argument with cyclist after he did some weird maneuvre in the middle of the road and i had to go around him in the face of an oncoming juggernaut of death, it's complicated to explain, but he tried to tell me off, like i was some kind of sunshine bus bike rider, so i bawled him for being a fucking spasticated, donkey-faced halfwit in a day-glo tabard. that did the trick.

  • a quick 'oi' seems to do the tick. Some commuter on my right pulling right in front of my path without looking. Doh.

  • eeehhhh [quote]chris crash [quote]|³|MA3K Nothing more cringe inducing than seeing a member of the commuter brigade stick out their arm ramrod straight then proceed to slowly drag across the lane.

i got a bloody lip out of it, she got a good scare. she is just lucky i was not a motor bike messenger or that arm would have been gone.

bromptons are the first sign of a muppet on two wheels...

    I know...

I can't wait for mine to go. Least I'll make a profit it on it. Just a couple more weeks and then I'll get my proper bike back :D
