Honda has made the world's first (normal looking) hydrogen-powered car though - that's genuinely useful. Still a LONG ways away though. Interesting fact about that car (off of top gear again) - if you were to switch it on and plug it into the mains outside your house, it would provide enough power for the whole street! Pretty cool.
...apart from the whole problem of currently needing more energy to make the hydrogen gas than you get from the reaction.
