The police would probably try to charge you with criminal damage for the removal of the number plate - They are totally useless and don't investigate minor crime unless there is rock solid evidence supplied to them by the victim. Just rub some dog shit in the bit where the windscreen and bonnet meet and the car will stink for long time.
