Have done the main A road (unfortunately can't remember which although figure its the most obvious route) out to Colchester and wasn't a whole lot of fun. Worst part was passing the on/off ramps with cars shooting up and down them and me playing dodgems on the bike. Would recommend scouting B roads - likely to be longer (particularly as greater scope to get lost) but a whole lot nicer.
