several years ago my dad used to get chased every day on his bike commute to work by a small fox terrier-type dog (pretty harmless but yappy and irritating).
one day my dad was riding past on his tandem (with no back passenger) and the stupid mutt didn't realise the bike had a longer wheelbase, and it ran straight under the back wheel.
it learnt its lesson.
