  • Hi just got my bike nicked from Vyner street

    http://www.invisibleknowledge.net/info/bike/bike_stolen_poster.png

  • how was it locked? what to? where on v street?

  • outside the wilkinson gallery..some one seen a guy walk out of the victory pub put a key in my lock open it and walk off with the lock trailing behind apparently hes a local to the pub about 19- 20 asian with a slight mustach....

  • jeez so there's master keys out there... that explains a lot. What lock please?

  • the guy who seen it says he's seen him do it before on Vyner street and lives in one of the housing estates at the end of the street....... went down and hung around for a good 1 hour an a 1/2 after it happened but no luck

  • it was a lock made by oxford

  • You sure he used a key?...

  • don't know what your supposed to do if theres skeleton keys for a lot of locks I guess just fuck as many as you can on ...my flat mate was telling me he knows someone who spent £110 on a lock that he later found out there where skeletons available for after it disappeared

  • Superseded circular barrel locks - does not apply to the new type - yet.

  • augh mate just watched the video thats rough

  • That sucks man! That area has a bad rep.
Pro lock pickers and pick pockets are still out there.
Unfortunately, people still use many locks which can be opened with a biro!
If there's skeleton keys out there then perhaps using 2 different brands of lock might be more difficult to get into.
I suspect your lock could've been opened like the above video.

  • thanks for the education guys... if you see my bike at any of the markets this weekend give me a shout and ill sort you out some beer money

    thanks David

  • I'll keep my eyes out as ever. Hope you find it.

  • cheers mate

  • Outside National Portrait Gallery today at 8-8:30pm Selle italia SLR seat and plain black post. ARSE!

    Shin

  • That sucks. I bet the ride home wasn't very fun...

I went to the Imperial War Museum the other day and even though I'd locked our bikes with a Fahgeddaboutit and a big Abus bastard, I was still running outside to check every few minutes...

  • Ok, so this is slightly off on a tangent, but just wanted to share a rather reassuring lock story...(i'm sorry if this sort of thing has been disucssed before!?)
Anyway, we had a woman come into our shop t'other day moaning about the kryptonite new york d-lock she'd bought (the £60 one); she'd managed to break the key off in the lock, that was the fault of her stupid biffa hands, but she then told us that she had to call a locksmith to come free her bike, and it took him just over 2 hours to cut through the lock with a big ole angle grinder! So, this was a great example to us of how strong they are. I guess if there wasn't half a broken key inside the lock he may have got it open much sooner...but still, bloody fookin strong innit!! Oh, and (as most of you probably know) it comes in the smaller 'pocket-lock' size, although it is twice te price of the more common £35ish one and about 10times heavier. But....bloody fookin strong! Recommended.

  • He only took that long coz he's getting paid by the hour.. ;)

  • Hehe, this could well be true, and to be honest, now you mention it he probably did milk it a bit...however, he had to cut through the shackle twice, as once you're through the first time the 2 halves won't twist or bend, unlike some cheaper d-locks which only lock on one side, so there's no choice but to cut again.
At the end of the day, when you're paying more money for a lock you're essentially just buying yourself more time; if there's some cunt with enough tools and time then you've got no chance.
    Bugger.
    Sorry, rant over :)

  • Right, ok...rant aside, i've found the answer....simple!

  • A friend had a bike stolen from outside the imperial college bike store (closed during repairs to doors) last fri 28th mar. it was a 1 mth old Carrerra vanquish and it was the first time he'd ever locked it outside. It's a black 2007 model size small. The frame no is sa70412140 .

supposedly it is being sold on gumtree at the moment ( http://www.gumtree.com/london/54/22082754.html ). after a bit of googling it seems my friend has found not only the guys mobile, but landline as well ( http://66.102.9.104/search?q=cache:ylUBkgi6W8gJ:http://www.londonpbb.com/london-ad-51753.html+07908356740&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=1&gl=uk ).

Police have said they will not do anything. He is a non violent guy, but just wants some justice.

He is collecting names ( email whsong@imperial.ac.uk) to take to the rector to get something done.

  • I just watched the video that Todd posted, its made me feel sick. There are other videos showing people breaking the chunkiest motorcycle locks within seconds. What the fuck? Thats going to make me paranoid about locking my bike anywhere, i've got a Krypto New York D lock and a fairly old but strong chain and padlock on my bike right now, do I need to get a 3rd? Or a better 2nd lock?

Shit...I'm going to go check on my bike now
