not too atmospheric, but it's my father-in-law on the rollers back in the 50s...

It was my father-in-law - my Dad wouldn't even know which was the front end of a bicycle, let alone competing in roller racing.

Not sure he did loads of roller racing. He was a clubman really, but back in those days they did a bit of everything. I have a few pictures of him time trialling on fixed wheels and competing in cyclo-cross too. He was also the British veteran 24 hour time trial champion in the early 80s. I can ask him next time I see him, but it's quite difficult to get much info out of him as he's had parkinson's for a few years and is pretty ill really (they had to hide his bike as he kept crashing).

He was much harder than I'll ever be.

seeing Sparkys thread reminded me of this,
in a deep underground scene the other day, far away from hipsterdom, where the tea was strong and the cake sturdy, some men including me competed in a rollerrace,
with rollers proudly resurrected from the vaults of a cycling club in the south west
