Spoke Size / Spoke Length Database - What size spokes do I need?

I built up a wheelset using Formula hubs last year and I have record of the dimensions. I've been meaning to put them up on my site but just haven't got round to it yet. These are the measurements that I made myself using a caliper. The flange diameter was 62mm for both front and rear. C-F for front was 34.3mm and for rear was 31.8mm. Hole diameter was 2.5mm. I have also built on CXP22 earlier this year and my ERD measurement was 601mm. Always good to measure the actual hub and rim yourself if you can as sometimes they can vary.

Thanks Arup, just to be sure, the 62mm flange diameter was the PCD not the external flange diameter? What stands for C-F?

C-F means centre to flange. I have only given one measurement because track hubs don't need to be dished to one side. I don't know if the hubs that I had before are the same ones that you are using. Do you already have them? Then you can measure them yourself. More accurate with a vernier caliper, but a decent ruler will do. The ERD makes a bigger difference to the final calculation and the number of holes.

I ordered hubs & rims online but didn’t get them yet; I was thinking to also order the spokes quickly so I can start building the wheels as soon as possible because a crack have developed in the rear rim.
For the distance between the flange I will use the data form other 120mm flip flop hubs…they should be the same? Or else wait and measure the real staff…

I will check if also get the same results with Broken_77…because it looks that thinks may vary for batch to batch…

Some rearhubs actually do need to be dished.. i have a set of Miche that needs to be dished.

flipflops will properly never need dishing though.

OK I put all the data into Spocalc and I get:
289.8 for the front
290.1 for the rear
I did not count offset spoke bed so it looks that Broken_77 is right for 292 front and rear...

weird ...trying to lace the wheel today aci spokes and aci nipples...292 too long unless i somehow picked up wrong spokes-).......but i ran it trough a spokecalc again with ERD found on a german website and it says 288 now which makes sense cuz the 292 was way fukken long...hmhm....

if this is the rim, then 292mm will be way too long, you had 292mm for open pro's and they are much shallower. i still stand by low 280's

Using arup's measurements and 599.5 ERD for the rims spocalc gives near enough 290mm front & back - same as you got, right? I vote for 288mm.
dale - are your reckonings based on 36H wheels? those extra spokes means 4mm shorter. Same thing had me confused for ages remember!

only ever laced one 36H, definitely 32, i prefer on the short side, instead of sticking through the end, although it won't cause a problem here.

just 3x laced cpx 22 plus rear flip-flop formula with 288 ACI spokes and nipples...spot on....292 was loads of bullshit...sorry about it.......

I have received yesterday the Formula flip/flop hubs so I can confirm the dimensions since many people build with these hubs (or, System Ex, Ambrosio, IRO, On One, etc, all the same).

Front
P.C.D. 62mm
C - F (outside surfaceS of flange: 71 /2 = 35.5; inside surfaceS of flange: 65.5 /2 = 32.25) average: 33.875

Rear
P.C.D. 62mm
C - F (outside surfaceS of flange: 66 /2 = 33; inside surfaceS of flange: 60.5 /2 = 30.25) average: 31.625

For Center to Flange (C – F) I measured both the distance between the outside and inside surface of the flange and then get the average/mid dimensions.

I just checked again all the combinations of the dimensions I gave above, in another website, and the spokes doesn’t go longer than 290 and not shorter that 288.9.

I'm planning on lacing some single-sided Phil Woods onto CXP33s, which I'm pretty sure has been done plenty of times by people on here (my calculations are: 289 for front, 288 for drive-side and 290 for non-drive side).

Anyone know if my Hoshi 305mm butted spokes will fit my Araya VX400 rims (thin)?
How the christ do I work this out? Apologies if there's an obvious commonsense solution staring me in the face, or a thread on just this right below mine (right, i'm ready for my crucifixion now).

how thin? 295 for 3x on the grey araya's that build had, 4x will be 305, i guess.

Hi Folks,
This is my first post here, and I'm in the middle of building my first fixed bike.
I'm gonna have a crack at building the wheels up myself using Miche Primato hubs and some rims I've got lying around from an unused road wheelset.

Trouble is I'm a bit stuck working out what length spokes I need, and because I want to order the spokes with the hubs (from cyclebasket) I Haven't got all my hub measurements so could anyone here help.

I'll do a standard 3 cross pattern, 32h.

What measurements do I need to take from my rim?

it depends on what calculator you use, but i would measure the Effective Rim Diameter or ERD
