andyp If you think chris crash was rude you might find this forum isn't for you. He was succinct and accurate.

yofixie check out moving target forum, its a wealth of knowledge from the proffessionals.
Its tough and badly paid, do lots of research before you jump in, especially with how much it costs to live in london. Having said that it is a lovely job in many respects. Just don't expect to make any decent wages for quite a while. -
• #35
rpm, thanks, i actually find that useful.
chandra, thanks also :) i dont reckon il consider it as a job, but i find the whole idea pretty fascinating :)

• #36
tbh yo fixie i thought you where a wind up beacuse of your user name...
-

yeah there's a lot of romanticisation about the job, it has a great community vibe, but at the end of the day its just a job.
ride bikes for fun! -

I only did it for a few months last summer for a small company in camden but the post above about it being hard wet and poor is on the money. Though actually not as shit money as I expected. You will go through chains and tyres like you would never believe. You bang your knuckles on wing mirrors a lot until you realise it's better to saw your bars right down so it's like a joystick or something. Once I got a call to find one of our other couriers who'd been hit by a taxi, had to help him pick his teeth out of the gutter, but it's good, it's good.

london is really good for the comunity, but still i tink its a sizeable majority of courriers who have never been to, and will never go to an ally cat or the john snow even.

chris crash lets just say this, its nothing like you think it is.
this is such a stupid question like whats the life of a builder like? he builds stuff.
whats the life of a courrier like? he courriers stuff.
haha :)
there seem to be a lot of new people on here like yofixie! recently, and well a lot of new people generally.
maybe it's 'cause of http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&safe=off&q=fixed+gear&btnG=Search&meta=

live within the radio zone
so you can switch your radio on early in the morning
eat breakfast
spin a winner
and wait for the choice jobs to come in
but that's only if you have a controller who feeds you

pretty much consists of riding a bike all day, its fun. ok you have to work in the rain and the cold, but on the whole i love it, wouldnt want to do anything else at the moment.most try for a few months dont make much money get wet and tired and give up. but if you stick at it its a good fun job.
its prob best to take everything with a pinch of salt, the truth is most of us don't know what its like to be a messenger there are only a handful of messengers on here, so thats prob why it seemed a strange question to everyone forgive our sins and welcome to the forum, keep up the fixed gear riding in the country (i lived in taunton untill a year ago so i know what its like)
