  • Hey guys,

I recently started riding Fixie and I've picked up some basic skills :) Tis hell of a good fun blastin around Bath :D

I don't, however, know what a typical day in the life of a cycle messenger is like.
Any cycle messengers out there care to elaborate for me?

    Jonny G

  • wet cold hard poor.

  • are you the guy with purple deep V's and black skinny jeans....

If yes, we are a bunch of couriers (correct English Parlance) and we jokingly shouted obscenities at you on the evening of Wednesday 13th February....

You were going far too fast to become a genuine courier.

  • Unfortunately not said person Winston. lol. I'm sure he appreciated it though :P

  • are they many of you down there then?

  • lets just say this, its nothing like you think it is.

this is such a stupid question like whats the life of a builder like? he builds stuff.

whats the life of a courrier like? he courriers stuff.

  • yofixie! Tis hell of a good fun blastin around Bath

I didn't realise couriers did uk wide delivery lol

  • they do it vans, yeah baby van drivres are the new bike messengers

  • "life of a messenger" = cheap (if you drive a lorry)

  • a life of leisure if you get taken out by a police van like me. 7 months off so far and expecting a big pay out.

  • Winston: 4 guys at the shop i work at ride Fixie. 2 of us ride regularly, just for kicks like.

Chris Crash: mayb use some intellect rather than diss my question? Prizes for statin the obvious with surprise ;) To make it more specific.... what makes you ride for a living rather than some other profession? lol

  • fixie?????? grrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!

  • yofixie... im not a bicycle courier... and im not a long time regular on this board... but you wont be getting anywhere back chatting the established board users... respeck

  • I think a geared bike with flat pedals is good for courier work, you get less knackered and you can jump on and off wearing any shoes which makes it easier to run in and out of buildings.

mtb with slicks, nice and chuckable in traffic.

oh, but that's not cool is it?

    it's not FIXIE

  • well....if you are a polish:-) immigrant like me, which you probably are not.....the money is fantastic, you dont pay taxes if dont want to and i dont....depending on the company you can work part time and do soemthing useful with the rest of your life, you dont have any set number of holidays days, you wear what you like, you look what you like, you dont deal with stupid customers/people most of the time, the time just flies past, you have a worldwide messenger community as a back up, you feel really proud of yourself after the stunts you perform everyday.....you are fit......and you getting better and better in riding your bike so you can make fun of the said hipsters later on.......sometimes you can get runover........but most of the time the adrelin and endorfins are coming out of your ears.....

the cons: weather, sometimes money, stress,

but then it depends on what you life demands are.......im pretty undemanding as far as money go apart from bike bits;-)

  • not a lot of love in this room. lol
back chatting is disrespectful, i'd agree smallbrownbike. however i reserve the right to ask a question without bein shot down in flames the first time i post here, its just plain unfriendly.

rpm i also ride a coupla other bikes :P one of them bein an old kona hahanna with slicks :) so nurrr. im a newbie but im not here to be abused for lack of "correct terminology"

  • broken_77, nice to hear from a friendly guy :D

  • If you think chris crash was rude you might find this forum isn't for you. He was succinct and accurate.

    I'm not abusing anyone mate.

    just musing, that's all.

don't take it too seriously, I think a few people really have taken it too seriously here.

THE INTERNET IS FOR FUCKING ABOUT

  • andyp, there's no need for anyone to be rude to each other now is there?
i'm pretty sure you represent a minority, as many guys have replied being creative about the question asked and being very welcoming. It's nice to have a sense of support and community and blah blah blah cliche etc....

  • you should try moving target's forum for questions about couriering, there's some FAQs and stuff there.

this forum is just for fakengers, no-one on here is a courier, or has been, they are all just fakengers.

but I've forgotten my manners. welcome to the forum!
