change your gearing to 44x17= 17 skid patches, close to the same gi
yours = 5 skid patches -

Heheh I can't think of the skids at the mo - trying to rebuild the bike first from a big shunt with some muppet driver. Broke my hand in the process and had to have surgery... about to start on the fixed again, but need new wheels first.

just sayin, as long as you changing stuff might as well

cheers man - I was actually looking to change back to a 16 at the back. But if I need a rebuild I'll look at a flip-flop fixed-fixed hub.

42x16= 8 patches
42x17= 17 patches -

will work, i saw someone running 28mm tyres on deep Vs before

Good point. Might pick up a 17 EAI from HubJub for the other side then - cheers.

Riding a fixed wheel bike on the road doesn't force you to skid in order to stop. Some people use brakes...

Cheers for the support on the tyres - I'd recommend those continentals to anyone. I've put in a slime puncture stip in them to reinforce and haven't had a puncture for 5 months (knock on wood). And the grip is phenomenal...

you said the word of the day

I agree that brakes are good. However it is nice to scare the shit out of someone riding on your backwheel once in a while...
-
• #13
absolutely, nothing like a good rear wheel lock-up to keep fluoro man at bay if you're just not in the mood.
you can still do it with brakes though
-
• #14
what a load of hyperbolic bullshit. absolute balls. u fixed wheel avengers keep it comming though.

• #15
if you are addressing me, sonny, then you're very wrong.
"fixed wheel avengers"
silly boy.

Having just got teh trkstnd locked without having to stare down at my front wheel I can recommend it as a very effective defensive riding move.
Seems to repel buses cars peds bouncy MTBs and nodders equally effectively. Like magic.
Exagerated rolling back and forward and wobbly rolling start keeps things sweet -

a swift edit to avoid embarresment from RPM. yes i was talking to you, but it's aimed at a general audience.
-
• #18
what's your point?
people skid, so what?
-
• #19
what the fuck did i miss..
realenger what are you pissed off about deep vs? wide tires? skidding? breaks? skid patches? fluro men?
-
• #20
simply that claiming that the ability to lock up a back wheel sans brakes represents some form of superiority over other road users/cyclists and is a suitable method of keeping "fluoro man at bay if you're just not in the mood" demonstrates a level of smug self-satisfaction that i disagree with, and think you guilty of.

not you chris, rpm, in this case. though im sure he's a delightful fellow.

nah, you got me wrong.
not smug self satisfaction, more like boredom.I don't feel superior over other cyclists, as I'm sure you don't.
Hope this is ok for you

of course it is my fine fellow, you certainly don't have to justify anything to me. I'm Glad you don't feel superior to your fellow road users. even if they are clad in fluro.

i fell superior to most people, but then again i am chris crash and they aren't

Most people are quite happy not to be Chris Crash..
Hi all. Just new to this - I currently ride a Charge Plug fixed (42T front with a 15 on the back) but I've had it with the crap wheels Charge put on them (AlexRims DM18). I'm looking at putting some Velocity Deep V rims (white, machined front, non-machined back) on the bike, but I was wondering whether I'd be able to fit my current tyres on the rims - I've got some Continental Sport Contact Tyres, which are 700x28C (slightly fat, but they offer amazing grip in the wet). I was wondering whether I could fit these on a Deep V - I've heard that the inner rim width is 14mm (Velocity only give a 19mm outer dimension on their website). I've checked Sheldon Brown's site for fitting of tyres, and a 14mm wall would be slightly small for the width because he says ok for a 15mm width, but not ok for a 13mm width.
Any ideas if it would be ok or not? Thanks in advance...
