• i wasn't directing that question to you in particular RPM!

• who? what? where?

this drinking has gone right to my head

• butler, candlestick, pantry.

• .

• dogsballs
RPM

middle class, gays on trays.

hehe!
so does mrsmith snowboard?!
no fuckin way! in the winter months when i was passing through clapham or fulham i would look out for the first skiing casualty, a bit like spotting the first swallow of a summer. they were easy to identify. rugby shirt with collar turned up, body warmer, crutches and a 'white stuff' fleece draped over their shoulders, put me right off winter sports.
i'll stick to mountainbiking.

• RPM thing is,

skating, bmxing, bikes, dwarf throwing and punk can be enjoyed by everyone (apart from maybe the dwarves) mostly.

snowboarding is pretty elitist, for those with a large disposable income..

even going to milton keynes indoor slope and hiring the gear would be quite pricey every weekend.

**middle class, gays on trays.

that always winds up my snowboarding mates (all of whom work in the design/media industry**)

Ha! Spot on! :-)

• a. skate- Nah.
b. BMX- Nope.
c. snowboard- Tried it once.. fell on my arse and face alot.
d. ride bikes anyway- Yep.
e. like punk rock music? Oh hell yes. All it's many variations. Use to be waaaay into it a few years ago.

• are fugazi considered punk? (just re read a few posts). I guess i do like punk then.

• there's a whole UK vs US can o' worms when it comes to punk..

MC5, Stooges, New York Dolls..

or Sex Pistols, The Clash, Buzzcocks..

obviously we all played never mind the bollocks at volume to piss people off, but I think I prefer the yank stuff.

But UK post-punk was way better; Joy Division, XTC, The Cure, PiL etc etc
or Black Flag.....um....ooo....The Cars?

• Sex pistols = boy band...

• i came to fixed from riding road bikes.

i like to fink that therefore i am part of the tradition of british cycling, far removed from this namby-pamby continental group madness.

i did however used to have a bmx.

• a. skate- yes, if anyone from Scotland remembers MBC (Local)? Mick was a legend, he used to give away most stuff if you helped out in the shop for a couple of hours servicing boards, printing shirts. He was sick of the was the industry was going, so he used to make his own brand clothing, sourced a board manufacturer got boards made for very cheap also wheels/trucks as I said this guy was a legend and kept skating low cost for everyone involved
b. BMX- yes.
c. snowboard- yes, same again Mick at MBC would organise cheap chalets and we would all pile in, sleeping in your board bag was always nice ;)
d. ride bikes anyway- yes.
e. like punk rock music? yes.

• I remember Mick from MBC! Legend

• all of the above!

• eeeeeee!!!

• hael

Was your boar bag Paisley?;)

• that whole "snowboarding is middleclass" arguement is old as fuck. how many bikes do you own, rpm? and how much do you think you've spent on them? im from vancouver; if you skated, you snowboarded. we used to take public transport up to one of the local mountains. i miss that. i know lots of guys here in london though who save up for a weeks snowboarding a year and do it on the cheap. you don't have to do it at your private chalet in st moritz, wearing a fur coat.

(i, uhm, work in the design/media industry... that may completely void the above rant)

you're from vancouver.

I said I spoke in London context.

how many bikes do I own?

2

road bike cost about £450
mtb cost around £250

last year I earned £15,000. my monthly rent is £500

could I afford to even go out the country for a holiday? of course not.

I understand snowboarding can be done on the cheap, but I maintain that if you have work or family commitments in London, buggering off for a season in Whistler boarding and working as a barman/rentboy/whatever isn't really viable.

hence the only people I know who snowboard (good mates BTW) have jobs which give them a significantly larger disposable income than mine.

• point well taken. hmm. i guess its perspective and where you choose to spend whatever disposable income you have. i'd probably live closer to a mountain if i couldn't afford to live in london and take a boarding trip once or twice a season...

• unfortunately, living closer to a mountain in the UK means Wales.

and nobody wants that

• What about the Cairngorms in Scotland, ace!

• Gotta love TISM..
Met a snowboarder
Who wasn't a turd?
Nah, neither have I
The idea's absurd
You get on a plank
Slide down some slush
Fall on your arse
Say "Man, what a rush!"

• in fairness, i tend not to fall down... :)

• RPM unfortunately, living closer to a mountain in the UK means Wales.

Don't forget the Beckton Alps :p
