  • Wiggle have cheap toolkit.. figured I'd mention it as there's tonnes of new builder types on here.. I have a similar one and it's quite useful.. I don't work for wiggle.

  • you ain't got a toolkit

  • No, I have Geeves the bike repairing man-servant living in a cupboard though.

  • I'm trying to decide between that one at Wiggle and this other one at sjscycles:
    http://www.sjscycles.co.uk/product-SJSC-SJSC-Bicycle-Tool-Kit--44-Piece-14426.htm
    Any thoughts?

  • buy hippys he doesn't use it ;)

  • beesknees id go for the wiggle its got cablecutters TBH

  • Crocodile Dundee says "That's not a tool kit, this is a tool kit"

Agreed Mick but that Italian shit went for $3053 US

  • I have a previous version of the one for sale at SJS....wouldn't recommend, only about half the tools are fit for purpose.....Hippy's one looks bit more rugged.

  • reculver beesknees id go for the wiggle its got cablecutters TBH

    The cable cutters are shit.

Maybe get a few cut's out of them before they go blunt.

  • i was going to ask about this sort of thing.
    park tools?
    super b tools?

i've got a normal tool kit, but things (see i'm technical) to tighten up the stem and take pedals off and oh fuck it. i'm going to buy a tool kit.

  • The LifeLine kit from Wiggle is good for routine stuff. None of the tools have let me down so far. It doesn't have a cable cutter in my set but has most other things. Buy one when Wiggle have a sale on.

  • Yeah I think I'll go for the Wiggle one... Thanks for the comments!

  • combined packages the way to go or a false economy? the wiggle one seems a bit of a bargain but I got the fear I'll end just having to replace all the bits anyway

  • Well it depends how often you use them. I don't use them often (save for the allen keys) and those LifeLine tools have been fine. They're not Park quality but they're not Park price.
Only workshops that constantly use the tools need anything stronger. For home use there's no point paying more. This doesn't apply to cheaper combined toolkits - there's some shoddy ones out there.

  • well the lifeline kit that's the model up from the one that hippy posted has got 9/10 from cycling plus - i guess it's the same tools, just more of them in one than the other.

with tools you can spend so much money - all depends how often you're going to use them.

  • beesknees Yeah I think I'll go for the Wiggle one... Thanks for the comments!

have you got yours yet beesknees?

  • adoubletap Crocodile Dundee says "That's not a tool kit, this is a tool kit"

Agreed Mick but that Italian shit went for $3053 US

    where are the cable cutters

  • or the bits for chasing correct (iso/ english) threading

  • not very useful a tall

  • That box set is just for opening wine bottles. No serious cyclist would have Campag on their bikes.. pfft! ;)

  • but it comes in black

  • Wouldnt even be worth it if it had a crank puller. Buy tools that will last you a lifetime, instead of using that crap for 2 years and then having to replace everything in it... but by then a fat chunk of this lot will be bored of bikes because fixed wheels wont be trendy anymore. Diddums.

  • as a bit of a wrench monkey myself i'd have to say that those "kit-in-a-box" deals are a false economy.

as with much in life - buy cheap, buy twice - which can good with some things... but not with bike tools.

wiggle (for example) also have a good range of Park Tools, which (IMHO) are the dogs. They're not cheap, but they will last and stand up to regular use.

  • In case you hadn't noticed, we are saying Lifeline tools stand up to regular use. It's not a false economy it's a sensible purchase for non-workshop use.

  • Thought I'd resurrect this thread rather than start a new one but how bad it this one from Lidl going to be @ £19.99?

    Made of Cheese???

This is a serious question, I could do with a tool kit for all the bits I rarely use? Anyone buy one off lidl before?
