  • I have my eye on a set of Paul hubs, but I know the chainline is a bit unusual. Will one of Phil's adjustable bottom brackets let me use them with a crank like... not sure what I'll be getting yet, maybe a Sugino 75?

Or would I be better off going for Phil hubs?

    Any help much appreciated, folks.

  • same issue as goldtec. could use an adjustable BB, like phils, royce. or i just run a 111mm campag centaur BB with my 75's and get perfect chainline on goldtecs.

  • Hmm, interesting. Is the Campag Centaur sealed, have you been happy with it?

So Paul hubs & 111mm centaur & Sugino 75s should work, too?

  • when i changed from a track hub with 43mm chainline to goldtec i just moved the chainring from the inside to the outside of the spider and that worked fine. but if your chainring is already on the outside...

yes (old style like this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Campagnolo-Centaur-AC-H-Bottom-Bracket_W0QQitemZ310026418431QQihZ021QQcategoryZ56193QQtcZphotoQQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)
    yes

or buy some paul cranks (they also recommend 111mm campag centaur)

  • Bombadil - I don't really want to build up a new bike and have hacks like that, though. I'd like it all to fit together as nature intended if I can get away with it.

  • Dogs - I looked at those Paul cranks - very pretty - but don't they use non-standard chain-rings?

    chainring is integrated, yes!

  • Sparky - is putting the chainring on the outside of the spider really a hack? I thought it didn't make any difference, other than to the chainline.

  • I don't know, it just seems that when my shiny new bike is done that it would annoy me. Maybe I'm just being a prat.

That's what I've got on the Coppi with Sugino 75's

  • just because i can and it might help

  • you put a freewheel on it? :O

    shakes head!!

  • what hell no thats the super fat lockring

  • Thanks Seb, that looks like a pretty straight chainline to me. What bottom bracket are you using with that?

What are your thoughts of them, and where did you pick them up?

You going to be bringing that down to South London polo - I promise not to crash into you!

  • What size rings do those Paul cranks come in?

  • Got my black Pauls from americancycle.com

  • flickwg what hell no thats the super fat lockring
    thank god!

    48, 46T in royal flush, 39 circles

bottom bracket is a really nice campagnolo centaur 111 from ribble

the hubs i got from american cycle, got them from the website not from ebay because they are cheaper of their actual site, took an age to come and the guy is a bit dodgy but were a great deal, i've had no riding time on this bike so far pretty much so can't tell you much, when spinning the wheel on its own they are super smooth.

sorry but this bike doesn't do south london polo, at least not until i don't have a hed3 on the front, if you want to see it in a pic, i can take one, in real life then you better get your arse along to the monopoly night ride

  • also i must not forget to thank dale who got the crans and chainring for me, and then let me have them even though he wanted them

  • Cheers everyone, food for thought.

  • paul cranks won't be available till end of the year ;)

  • To be honest, the non-standard chainring thing has put me off the cranks a little anyway.

Debating what to use now - thinking Paul hubs, Phil cog, Phil BB and Campagnolo Record track cranks.

what do you mean non-standard? they are tough as nails, CNC machined, although they are held on by four bolts at the bottom, like the old TA cranks.

fark, there is some serious coin for a mish mash of parts.
