• The CHANEL BIKE. Not sure if this has been up already, will set you back about 11 grand im told. The missus wants one to keep up with my bike. The quilted side bags are insane. :p

  • Smaller holes, thinner layer, but yes.

A nano level scaffold construction with the scaffold bearing in mind the different stresses at various points in the frame. There are no photos of carbon nano tubes.

    Hmmm... this:

Except you've got to imagine that as being thinner than you'd think possible yet stronger and stiffer than any frame you've ridden.

That the photo is a simulation of carbon nano tubes gives you an idea of scale... that's sub-millimetre stuff there. I would image that on a bike they'd use more than necessary to give a more traditional bulk by using three tubes to create a single triangular tube when wrapped with carbon. I'd imagine that they'd do this for aesthetics and to prevent racers from decapitating each other in high speed crashes.

My girlfriend just pointed out that the leather used on the saddle bags wouldn't hold up to the weather and are totally useless. It also looks like it's got a quilted chain guard. I'm building her one just like this in pink and she better appreciate it!

Dude thats funny, my girlfriend pointed it out too, its on display in selfridges if anyone is interested ;)

To me, that there is the future of bike frames. Not the spidery mess, but the concept of using carbon mesh/web to produce an open structure. I think a better implementation would see carbon nano tubes producing an ultra-thin tubed lightweight frame in which the holes were not visible... still, this is the right direction to start in (though I think it's dog-ugly at this point in time, but at least someone is thinking of how to use the materials).
thats what i ment it has the tech, the basic shape, it just needs to get its act together, stop shooting up in union sq and put on some nice cloths
it's interesting, but i was wondering.. would it not in fact have a larger surface area than a conventionally tubed bike, in terms of aero dynamics etc? or doesn't it work like that?
since arro tubing makes 0 difference in a bike, i dont thing more small tubes will make any differnece

I was playing with carbon nanotubes today in fact. Can't see them scaling to bike sizes any time in the near future though, the ones I was using were about 1um in length :D

  • you are William Gibson and I claim my five dorrah

  • The only bike reference I remember in a William Gibson novel was a laminated paper frame ridden by a courier.

  • Found this v.nice item on ebay for £1200 (ouch).
not completely my tase but the finish and attention to detail, down to the powder coat painted chainring, is impressive.

  • what no risers?

    TWELVE HUNDRED POUNDS?

I'm not sure whether to laugh, shit, puke or sigh...

That's almost as lazy as the Obey/Fuji bike. White NJS frame with pink Deep-Vs? Because that's never been done before. However, the £850 price tag does put that powdercoated IRO into perspective somewhat.

Not hating on FreshTripe at all - it's not a bad bike - but if ilovedust consider putting matching rims and dildo bars onto a track bike as fulfilling a design assignment, then I (along with every trained chimp in the world) am in the wrong business.

Man, I'm feeling grumpy tonight. Sorry.

  • wow that pink/white bike is really nice.

  • Steady on turpe, its not quite finished yet...

...I understand your comments; I agree the bike is not that radical - it is really intended to mark the launch of some pink and white Tokyo-themed products in the UK (like those rude-bars, some cheeky t-shirts and a few other bits and bobs...)

  • yeah Turpe....so go eat shit!! ;-)

  • Is ilovedust Liam "Bar Manager at Hobgoblin" Baker?

  • Full custom NJS with real gold paint and Deep-W's laced to carbon nano-tube spokes, from ihatepink..

funny enough my girlfriend is one of the founders/owners of the bike company that manufactures these...

Darn - hippy must have seen the blue (pink) prints for the finished bike...

    "matching rims and dildo bars"

    hahahaha

FreshTripe.. I've given you free advertising/praise so build me a bike... on the cheap!
