If you're riding everywhere, move away from the Tube lines for cheaper rent.
I only know Ealing prices - we paid £1100+CT for a really nice (blue "Smeg" fridge! Go Red Dwarf ha! :)) 2 bed flat 7min walk to Ealing Broadway.
I now pay £650+CT for a large ground floor studio flat, 25min from Ealing Broadway - lots of bus connections should I not want to ride or walk. -

theres a massive extension happening on the east London line which will go straight through Brockley...thats sure to have an effect on renting prices.

i've got a studio flat with seperate kitchen and seperate bathroom in Upper Holloway @ £650. thats good value!
but true about the further you can get from the tube the cheaper. coz people are lazy bastards.

Hackney is poorly served by the tube, thus relatively cheap.
According to dear Phil and Kirstie, it's a crap place to live - but it really isn't. (Although I technically live in Tower Hamlets - meh).

photoben Dude, I'm paying 910 for a two bed (big space). I believe there is another one going in our block, I'll check it out! In Clapton, north of Hackney.
Hackney and Clapton are really really nice, and they'll just keep gettin nicer, thus are a total bargain! And to be honest, despite being a south of the river born and bred, i reckon the area there has so much more character, as well as being far, far closer to BL Polo, etc (and central London).
Ben, my Gf lives in Clapton, i know it sort of, where you at?
Oh and if you see me, shout! -

Cool, I'm in the converted tower block on Daubeny Rd, and Muna lives two streets away. And yes, tis proper easy to get to Polo. I'm going to check out my local tonight.
Cracking chippy on Homerton High Street, and the only I've seen in London that serves chips n gravy...yum!

My girlfriend and I pay 944 a month - 1 bed, but has a big living room that you could do something with at a push. The place is a bit of a gothic wreck, but it's in a dam nice area, just off upper street, in N1 - I looked around for ages and found nothing, until this gem popped out of nowhere.... I can imagine it's hard being in scotland. For me it was a full time job to find a good, affordable flat, in a nice, safe area

That is the cheapest rent I have heard of since I was living in Hayes west london 5 or 6 years ago, and that was a box room. billa is clearly on one hell of a good deal.

I found this website quite helpful: http://www.livinginlondon.net. It gives a general overview of each area. It may not be that up-to-date though. Like you I am planning on moving to the London but the cost of living scares me shitless. At the moment I pay under £600 for a two bedroom house with a garden!

I also recommend Broccoli. I live across the 'Way in St Johns. Good night buses on that side, if you like that kind of thing. (I start riding into walls after a couple of pints.)

hello,
Basically i think you want "zone 2 not near tube", or "zone 3 with tube".Peckahm
Brockley
New Cross
Nunhead
Lewisham
Hackney
Mile End
BowOh and don't believe all the rubbish from the mac carrying nathan barleys that think
all the above places are "too dodgy" - that's just rubbish.I've got so many friends who've lived in the above areas for years and i've lived
in Peckham for 7 years with no problems. -

Scott knows that Brockley/SE is the best option,he just needs to admit it.

It would not be half price if that is what you are thinking. Lots of one beds have the kitchen in the living room or just off of it through a archway or something but still very much joined on so one person living in the living room and on in the bed room might be logistically difficult from that point of view.
Just try a few searches on a website like rightmove for one beds and two beds to compare the prices.
SE London is a good option scott. am there myself but looking to move back east. homerton, hackney wick, clapton might all fall within your budget and are only a couple of miles from a lot of the bike lot on here. you'll get more for your money if you are prepared to go further east - stratford, leyton, walthamstow. but i am basically gonna be homing in on homerton, clapton, springfield park. i know that area real well as it was my first stomping ground in the smoke back when.
when are you looking to move?
