I don't feel guilt about converting it, especially as keeping the paint job means keeping the cable guides etc in place. Now if I was grinding them off then yes I'd kind of agree, but its a frame that's been sitting rusting unloved in a shed for a decade or two and I'm gonna love it and stroke its polished bits...

I agree, no puppies or indeed any other small geared-bike-related animals will be harmed in the process of converting it to a fixed wheel. Can always stick gears on it if when the next frame comes along. :)
