I can see it from both angles - to chase up every theft and crime to a happy conclusion would cost billions more than their budget allows, so I understand why stolen bikes don't get recovered.
Also, running red lights is illegal - we may all do it occasionally, but we shouldn't be surprised if we get fined.
Not that I enjoy fines or stolen bikes...

Taken this morning in Old Street, directly acroos from my workplace. The miscreant was rightly apprehended by our ARMED boys in blue, for the crime of.....using a derailleur!

i think you're right,it seems everyone is against cyclist even the police...on the other hand the police have to uphold the law which means fining people jumping lights.if only they were as committed to recovering stolen bikes and arresting the thieving cunts.
in regards to bus/taxi driver i put it down to jealousy...while they're stuck in traffic having to listen to all kinds of backwards people we are cursing graciously through traffic like majestic ( ENTER WORD)...i just smile and ride on :) -

did the google maps thing get sorted? if it was for both stolen and attempted i think it would be pretty enlightening to see how bad the situation is. it's always far worse than they let on...

those cops in islington - i recognised them as i rode by this morning, they gave me a 'verbal admonishment' yesterday afternoon. was really silly acutally, didn't piss me off (surprisingly) since they chased me all the way up upper st, from angel almost highbury corner, before i even noticed they were there. apparently they were so out of breath they couldn't yell loud enough for me to hear them. i'm glad they're in good shape, you know, to catch people and all that.

Just thinking that myself... 3 of the monkeys to stop one cyclist!
I appreciate they have the job to do, but it's so biased - How about having a word with drivers who abuse the advanced stopping are at lights and park on the cyclepath area... Yeah, saw this in another post. Where's Pete Doherty when you need him? -

Stalking is a compliment. You must surely be the most beautiful creature on earth. But how was this about you? I thought it was about http://www.flickr.com/photos/66296756@N00/2278878881/in/photostream/

BMMF is the second copper from the right. He works undercover on here trying to expose a hipster clothing importation racket.

i think they're just asking where is the best cake shop in the area?!?
-

The local cops - is there a selection policy in the force, biased towards having a skinhead (which I have) and cro-magnon eyebrows (which I don't)?

Oooooh, shiver....look at the size of his gun. Gun-envy.

i suppose if you don't jump red lights then the likelihood of being fined is significantly reduced?
is this a RLJ thread? :-)

To save a bit of heart ache insurance... more than you brought it for. My geared got stolen last year aug. on columbia road (so did my friend about a month after me) insurance company wrote the cheque to brixton cycles. la la la new build.
I think the guy who helped mark and the support from the blog-ees for the guy on brick lane is all you can expect in term of enforcement at the moment.
Don't expect too much help from the police.
Do we run reds cos most of the time we can?

Can anyone advise any good deals on insurance? Seeming like a good idea before I take delivery of my new bike...

Flattery will get you everywhere. I'll watch for the signal, and then slip into a mankini and pose in my living room window for you whenever I'm at home during office hours.
Hey all - been lurking on here for a while so hello.
Excuse the serious post but I was cycling to work today and noticed on the spot fines being doled out in Islington for red lights and this got me thinking how we have it all wrong in London. On one hand cycling seems to be encouraged on enviromental levels but then on another it seems that cyclists are hated across the board (police / bus, taxi, car and van drivers etc...).
I have now had two bikes stolen in London town and the police have done nothing. I read about the guy on here that had his bike destroyed in Brick Lane (seems the police again did nothing) and then yesterday I read about someone - though admittedly drunk - being knocked off his bike by some nippers.
I was wondering - did that google map for stolen bikes get set up? it seems someone needs to be made aware of how bad this problem is getting. perhaps if that gets filled we can point it in the direction of BBC Online or something...
This reads like a right winge but it all seems very backwards right now. I don't get it. Plus the fact that the roads we have to cycle on have huge holes in them.
Moan over. And watch the red lights if you run them.
