  • I have recently been drawn towards a ss steed. I did use one way back in the early 90's very briefly for training whilst I dabbled in serious road cycling, it didn't last as I realised you had to be harder than nails to get anywhere. At the moment I have a geared compact geometry road bike which I like alot.

I know the users on here advocate the continued use of proper track frames proudly displaying battle scars from old skool builders, which I respect btw. I, however am a capitalist whore to whom shiny newness is infinately attractive anyway I digress.

I want a compact otp ss bike. I like the look of the Pinnacle Bachelor and the much maligned Langster, not the London one. I cant find a review for the Bachelor I dont really want steel aluminium is my metal of choice, does anyone own on here (unlikely, I know) own the Bachelor or know anyone who has one?.

    Just looking for some feedback

    Muchos

  • It's more expensive than the Langster, but look at the Willier Pista, it sounds like it might be right up your street, it's very light and oh so very preedy.

  • It's a lot more expensive than the Langster (£800?). Not sure why you'd bother with it to be honest, other than to avoid being labelled..

Also, I don't think the Wilier is compact geo. How much does the Wilier weigh?

  • No, thinking about it, you're right the Wilier Pista doesn't have compact geometry, it's just I jumped on one after riding the pedalforce (which is sort of semi-compact) and they had a similarish set-up, so I was remembering it as semi-compact and forgot the semi bit. So maybe not such a good recommendation, I still like it though and I still don't work for Wilier, so if it was a dodgey recommendation, it was an honestly dodgey recommendation.

  • Thanks for the comments. The Langster and the Bachelor are both £400.00 which I think is good vfm.

'hippy' Avoid what? Being labelled as Langster owner? Have you ever ridden one? They are great tbf. Just my opinion though.

I think Hippy might just have ridden a Langster - or something very similar...

  • yer the the bachelor is only £400

You missed most of the fixed bandwagon-jumping, aluminium, wrong-way-tubing Langster hating.. have a guess what's under those stickers.. this is the bike I ride to work now that I've lost my safe parking spot..

So, if anyone is allowed to shit all over Langsters, it's me. I think it does the job rather well, even though I'd prefer to be riding my other bikes :)

  • Bachelor means dealing with Evans, which is a very bad thing. It looks kinda cheep too.

Kona Paddy Wagon is £450 and made of lovely Deda steel, or invest in a month's worth of catfood and get a CONdor.

  • Did you actually ride the bike brakeless or was this just an attempt to feign being cool for a photograph?

  • I didn't have a brake for it until Dale sorted me out. I don't need to feign cool and you know I advocate brakes every chance I get.

You want a real hipsterposewankenger pic? :)

  • That's what threw me.
